Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Normally, with all my other cars, I've got hold of a cable and copy of the full dealer software, so have BMW INPA, Jaguar/Land Rover IDS and VAG group VCDS. I want something to troubleshoot issues such as my central locking fault, which locks then immediately unlocks and sounds the horn twice. On the second attempt it stays locked, but the key button on the dash flashes 21 times then stays solid red and the horn sounds twice when I unlock. I've replaced the door handle micro switches as the passenger one wasn't dropping when you pulled the internal handle and it's done this with 2 wings and 2 petrol cap solenoids, so I think we can rule them out. The centre console was recently out and back in, so the cubby hole switch looks OK and was plugged back in. I'm guessing a door lock switch, but am not sure which one. I've bought an iCarsoft before for my old Jag and personally, I was not impressed. It wiped adaptation to the ABS module when clearing a fault and could not restore it, plus many readings were out to the tune of at least 10 times reality. Durametric seems the sort of thing I need, but at £300 a pop, is fairly expensive for my needs. Is there anything else which can help with my central locking issue, or do I need to bite the bullet and go for Durametric? Cheers, folks.

POST 2Original post

How did you get on with locating some software? If you are in a bind and need some help then I have the Durametric software and if you are not too far away then I may be able to lend a hand. Hope you got it sorted.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I haven't got round to this yet. Normally, you can buy a clone cable and some software for well under £100. Durametric seems genuine only and I can't justify £300 for it. I've bought a door locking mechanism with new sensors, so will swap that first as it was quite cheap. If that doesn't work, I'll go for the bonnet microswitch. If that doesn't work, It would be great if I could drive it to someone localish to be read with Duarametric for a some beers.

POST 4Original post

The Autel AP200 does give more info than your bog-standard OBD-II reader. Possibly worth giving that a go. Autel are a 'proper' garage brand and this is their entry level stuff but it is reasonable.

Durametric on eBay ending in a few hours. 2 Vins left on it. 👌 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333789315677

POST 6Original post

If you decide to get Durametric, look out for a Pro version. No vehicle limit and better resale value.

POST 8Original post

For a decent reader/code clearer, not programmer, have a look at the iCarsoft V1.0POR or V2.0POR. Have found the V1.0POR to be useful on my 986 for about £100. The V2.0 costs more but you only need it if you want to work on newer Porsches and need hand brake rewind and features like that.

POST 9Original post

Am I correct in saying that the Durametric pro allows coding of the vehicle, whilst the enthusiast version doesn't?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went for over £210 plus £10 postage, for a second hand cable which can only be used on 2 cars. Yikes! I normally buy clone for £40 with software. I have JAG/Land Rover IDS, VAG group VCDS and BMW INPA plus full dealer software.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an iCarsoft for my Jag. It was pretty useless and didn't do much more than my usual OBD2 readers. It wiped the DSC/ABS module when it should have just been clearing a wheel speed sensor fault. I ended up buying a clone clone copy of the full JLR dealer software to recalibrate it.

POST 13Original post

Does go to show if you buy one then it'll retain a lot of its value.
