Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run about 1/2 inch rake' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rears and stick' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The front tires on my 17" wheels still have lots of tread, so I may just replace the rears and stick with the 17's a bit longer.

I haven't driven a set yet but have seen data where they are just as quick as NT01's which I'm very familiar with.

Using those 18" wheels also brings another set of decisions to make: which tire?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After staring at the coilovers, sway bars, drop links and rear toe control arms sitting in the garage for way too long, I finally got around to installing them! It still needs an alignment, corner balance, and final ride height adjustment, but I couldn't resist cleaning it up for a few pics.
Also mounted up the Carrera II wheels that I've had for even longer than the suspension... and they look amazing! I need to get some fresh rubber on them so I can retire those 17" boat anchors.
Two remaining questions:
1- Ride height: how low is too low on the street? The front is at ~4.25" right now, and the back is about 5".
2- Those wheels need refinishing: silver or black? I'm leaning towards black. I like them both, but black does a better job masking brake dust.
Refinished calipers look good, too
With the 17" wheels
Congrats on the install! I'm a fan of black with the silver, obviously.
Your ride height is as low as you would want to go for even track usage. You will have to take speed bumps and ramps at an angle but it's doable. Just see if it bugs you but it wouldn't hurt to raise it an inch. It will also make it easier on the alignment shops.
Silver...black is overdone. Too low is when you can't get in the driveways you need to get in and out of, and it is uncomfortable to drive on the streets you need to drive on.
I like the silver finish also. I am a little biased though, my car was identical until I added aero pieces. It looks to me like it needs a little more drop in the rear to even it out a bit.
Yeah, I get that. I run about 1/2 inch rake on my 996(not tracked). In his 1st photo the car just looks really high in the back to me. Anyhow, the car looks sharp.
Doesn't look low to me. Black wheels look terrible.
def spacers on the lightweight 5 spokes. .5 to .75 agreed rake. Drop at good Indy for chassis setup and pay them accordingly.
I've got an appt for next Wed to have the suspension properly adjusted. Will ask their opinion regarding height and general alignment settings.
In the pics above, the wheels do have spacers. 5mm all around.
I saw a 996 AE on the road today, and the 'hyper silver' wheels looked really nice. I'll probably end up flipping a coin between silver and black...
Looking good Chris.
I'm generally a fan of black wheels on silver cars, but in the case of the Carrera IIs, I think I prefer the stock silver look. Get the alignment done, slap on some center caps and enjoy driving the car.
Fear not, there will be center caps!
Using those 18" wheels also brings another set of decisions to make: which tire? The ones they have now are ancient and showing cords. Not going to drive on those beyond my driveway. Right now I'm leaning towards Bridgestone RE-71R. Main use will be AX and weekend drives. Maybe some DE.
So you like them on the track? Curious b/c I just swapped to RE71R from DZii* and was expecting them to be better at autox, same on the street, but less tread life and probably not extremely heat tolerant after several hot laps on track.
2 weeks in and I haven't taken them on track yet. 1st autox was very promising however. Was surprised how plush and quiet on the street the seem compared to the worn DZii*. I think I also read that they heat cycle out faster than DZii*, but the grip seems worth it.
I haven't driven a set yet but have seen data where they are just as quick as NT01's which I'm very familiar with. Add to that a tread profile that allows DD in rain and you've got a great combo. I have not read anything about them heat cycling out and don't believe it will be an issue.
Got it back from alignment today. Unfortunately, it's pouring rain so I could not do any testing. I was relieved that it did not seem harsh on the freeway.
Based on the corner balance results (and subtracting the driver weight), the car with ~1/4 tank of fuel is 3090lbs.
The front tires on my 17" wheels still have lots of tread, so I may just replace the rears and stick with the 17's a bit longer.
