Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replaced front discs and pads due to this, when I moved the car a piece of the pad came away causing wheel judder on braking.
Leading evidence: 'Replace front discs and pads due' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check v5' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Generally though there is a reason for one side of a disc not getting clean/worn!!

I've been thinking of buying some wheel covers to put on while washing the car to keep water out of the brakes, and simply leave the wheels till I go out next or wipe them clean with a microfibre.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not uncommon though .. when you get a service advise saying front or rear inner disc faces corroded then this or worse is what we are mentioning !
It will always be an amber advise as this will easily pass an mot test .
Mine were like this when I bought it. I think washing cars before putting them in the garage exasperates the problem.

Looking on ebay you can get waterproof / UV resistant covers for motor home wheels for not a lot of money.

I had chunks flaking from mine on the inside, I cant believe how cheap a new pair were. From memory it was 250 for the pagid disks and pads 10 years ago, whereas a mates m3 was 500 for the same.
Driving miss daisy! Love it! Car is new to me and haven't driven it yet!
The pistons inner and outer both sides were totally free!
If the history is to be believed (and it looks correct) then this car has done less than 40k, could they be originals? Did Porsche use Brembo pads as OE?
I was just pulling your leg ref miss daisy. Generally though there is a reason for one side of a disc not getting clean/worn!! It might be a 996 peculiarity but generally not normal on most vehicles. Perhaps with lots of gentle (very) braking the inside pad is not pressing on the disc enough.
Check the v5. Previous owner could well be miss daisy's chauffeur
Porsche discs are particularly soft .. it means they are far better at braking efficiency but not so good at resisting the elements .
It's the amount of water that will go against the inner face that's the cause .. never yet had seized caliper pistons on a 996 or 997 .. Always possible but its not been the cause of all the ones i've worked on .
Outer edge rusts more .. more water access than the inner part .
The reason why after washing the car you give it a quick 5 min run is to dry the brakes out .. if not then the pads will rust onto the discs overnight .. often causing brake judder ..
Couple of pictures of the usual corrosion i see ... both are 997 .
Outside faces were fine on both of these .
Must be peculiar to Porsche because I've probably changed an easy couple of thousand dics and pads through my time in the motor trade and unless there is a problem with pads sticking in the carrier (carrier corroded and expanded) or siezed pistons you rarely see this type of thing.
DeMort you always have the answersðŸ‘
While reading this I wondered why the pads stick to the disc if left wet, now I know!!
Replaced front discs and pads due to this, when I moved the car a piece of the pad came away causing wheel judder on braking. Car was put away after washing without a quick drying drive!

I also wander if both sides of the calipers are bled properly during brake fluid changes. My brakes are transformed after new discs, pads, bleed nipples and brake fluid.
