Secondly - I know there are a lot of names on the forum already but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good body shop in London(south ideally).

This, I had a similar scrape smart repaired on my daily in a day last year for £130 with 2 year warranty (place near my office, just left it with them and they phoned me up a few hours later to say it was done.......proper job I could not tell)

I'm hoping this won't set me back much more than £500 is this reasonable for a quality repair and respray?

I used Revamp in Orpington to respray the front bumper of my arctic silver 996 turbo shortly after I bought it (just a few stone-chips but as the bodywork was otherwise immaculate I thought I would...) and was very pleased with the work and colour match.....

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
So I took some advice from the forum and my mechanic and decided to keep the 996t covered at least during the winter. Only problem is when I was reversing the other day a wall jumped out at me and hit my rear bumper. It's mainly paint from the white wall and a bit of cracking to the bumper.
2 questions I was hoping for some help with. Firstly I'm hoping not to hurt the resale value too much and I know if I get it resprayed someone might think I've had a rear end collision rather than scraped a wall. Are there any steps people have taken to document this?
Secondly - I know there are a lot of names on the forum already but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good body shop in London(south ideally). I'm hoping this won't set me back much more than £500 is this reasonable for a quality repair and respray?
Thanks as always!
I'd take a load of 'before' photos of the rear end of the car (ideally date stamped) to show the extent of the damage that was repaired.
If a subsequent buyer then spotted anything about the freshness of the paint and was suspicious I'd show them to him.
In London/South East I think your c£500 anticipation is about right.
If you get the painter to clearly put the extent/reason for the work on the receipt it would further validate your photo evidence.
To be fair if someone would be expecting to buy a 20yr old car that hadnt had some paint then they are kidding themselves especially bumpers repainted. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Most of these cars will have had paint of the bumpers at some point in their lifetimes anyway.
If you need a bodyshop, Autobody Technic in Slough is good and does plenty of work on Porsches.
:agree:
Autobody Technic did a great repair and respray on my 997 bumper.
Don't get too hung-up on evidencing the repair. But FYI, if you take digital images, all the details are recorded in the file, including the date and even the GPS location! - see below

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm sure I sound paranoid but I've read on this forum and others of people thinking twice about a car because the paint depth wasn't right.. I know it's 20 years old but it's us Porsche owners we're talking about a picky bunch I'd say.
A smart repair looks like an interesting idea though I've heard arctic silver is particularly difficult to match. I'm happy to save money where I can but don't want to cut any corners, have any of you had the silver matched without a full respray?
As a side note I honestly can't believe how much I love this car when it hits 0.8 bar it still scares me a bit even though I live in London with 20 zones and speed bumps so a lot of trips feel like I'm committing cruelty to Porsches. So a thanks to all who helped me out(especially T8 and Cheshire)!
