POST 1Original post

All I can say is there are going to be a lot of silver TVR's around next year.....try something different, TVR's are a statement of individuality so leave the silvers, reds, blues and greens to Ford disclaimer to add I am not a colourist

POST 2Original post

The Tamora engine rock solid!!! I think not, is it not the same six cylinder lump that goes in the Tuscan that is known for its unrelibility but with a few less bhp? Great looking car agreed, huge power to weight ratio, and congrats to TVR for producing such a desireable range of cars, but for that dosh a lhd 993RS would be screaming my name

POST 3Original post

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know, I know. But just look at the damn thing! It looks ing fantastic!! I could even forgive it a few niggles. I think black on black would look tasty.

POST 6Original post

"....after hearing the new tamora engine is pretty rock solid..." Go on, tell another one. Can't remember the time I laughed so much. "Did I use the wrong oil?" "Did I mess up the running in?" "Did a get a rare faulty part?" "Was it built with bits from that one-off faulty batch?" "I'm I not meant to use it on Tuesdays when the winds coming from the south?" "Was it sensible to build the valve gear out of snow?" I'm assuming your new house is in the North, because that is where your car will be garaged.

POST 7Original post

Ah well, one less Christmas card to send then... Seriously, it's good money for what it is, so go for it mate...if that's what you hanker after. Breathe slowly, Derestrictor....

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Build the valve gear out of snow! Superb! I know the speed six had probs, but the tamora is supposed to be solid. Check out some of the owners experiences. It just looks so damn fine!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

By the way UV, I saw that film the other day - Bad Boys. Have you seen the T2 in that flick? That looks menacing to say the least. Go on, get it sprayed black!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, it had the big spoiler on the back, turbo alloy, wide body and plush interior. Looks awesome in black.

POST 12Original post

Also the yanks diddnt get a proper 964RS, they got a modifed Carrera 2 called an RS America. Which is not the same beast at all.

POST 13Original post

Well acquainted with that piece of cinematic candy

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OPC and Paragon never seem to have a T2 in stock. They must be pretty thin on the ground, in good condition anyway. How much do tidy ones cost these days? 30k for a very low miler rhd?

POST 15Original post

Go on... defect RR... why stop at black? Go for the washing up liquid effect paintwork to go with the finger followers hewn from Cussons Imperial Leather I hope it goes well, because the ribbing you'll get from myself, UV, iguana, DeR and the boys will be too much if it goes wrong Talk to ALT (andy) and chris mason (M6GUK I think) about the Tamora before you get one, as they have owned Tams for a while. Good luck mate!!!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hold on a minute, I said THINKING about defecting! I have a get out clause there! I know I should get a porsche - mega reliable and mega brutal in turbo form. Not bad in RS poverty spec either! It's just that new 350 gives me the horn. Damn it! Why is life so hard?

POST 17Original post

It is a 3.6 965 Turbo 2, I know the car and the movie well. It has the cutaway RS rear bumper centre section, which may have got Marki thinking 'RS'. RR, if you want one of the best cars for your budget going, email Bernard at [email removed] NOW. He is selling his lightened 400bhp T2 for 28k. It does 0-60 in 3.9 secs and is in concourse condition. Pics are on the PH classifieds section... Now that *is* a car.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That sounds the nuts! Alas, I need to sell my bleedin' place in london first! Spring time man! Spring time! I loved the ride in UV's bad boy last time - very impressive. A minter in black would moisten my boxers somewhat. I need to calm down and think of snowy valve trains to keep me on the right track. Calm, calm, don't think about that sexy slut tempting me, called 350.

POST 19Original post

Of course RR, there is always a Cerbera... No nasty speed six engine to worry about then.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now why don't tvr put a dirty great chevy lump in there and be done with it? That Peter Wheeler bloke is a nutter casting such doubt over the marque. Why are those rumours still flying about. Smoke and fire, and all that.

POST 21Original post

I always thought the bad boys car was..not only a 965 T2 3.6 litre...but actally a turbo S model...carbon fibre doors,lightweight model,,,i think they also have some rear wing ducting/cooling similar to the 993 tt S of 1998.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It didn't have the turbo 's' side air vents, so I don't think it is, even though the dialougue suggests so - "it's a 105 thousand dollar special edition".

POST 23Original post

*Rock solid??* Since when, yesterday morning??

POST 24Original post

RR, next time we get together come along and you can have a good look over my Tamora. I know some of these Porsche Boys wouldn't even accept a TVR as a competition prize but it's performance is amazing! And it's the cheapest TVR! Cheers.... Andrew

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've just seen a good example T2 3.6 up for grabs on 911uk.com. It has 38k miles and FPSH for £31k. Just window shopping, but it looks like good value. Would this price be about usual then? Also would you risk a private sale to save a few g's? I've heard some dealers warranties (not porsche) are worth fack all due to 90% of the bits listed as 'wear and tear items'. Private or warrantied? Maybe private with an OP inspection is a good balance.

POST 26Original post

LHD for that cash? the 3.6 is alot more desireable amongst enthusiasts than the 3.3, dont even think of getting one without an inspection tho.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

alt, cheers mate. I do find the 350 very sexy, but the tales will keep my chequebook in my trousers until I'm fully convinced. At heart I'm a 911 lover just window shopping the options. I plan on touring the alps next year and I'd like to get past dover! Only kidding mate, I'll look into it.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fack it! Yes, that was a lhd. I missed that - doh! How much do rhd T2's go for then? Are we talking 40k for a minter?

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There's a load of 993TT's going for 45k on that site!

POST 30Original post

Mid to high £30k for a mint rhd 3.6 from a specialist £40k is too much. 3.3 s Start in the low £20k area

POST 31Original post

I did see Andrew(ALT)'s Tam the other day, and have to admit it did look and sound the business. They are a fine horse if that's your course.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Aside from age, whats the big difference. And don't say 0.3 litre! Didn't they iron out the turbo lag between the two. Also the newer one has cleaner, better bumpers I think. Anything else? What is UV's bad boy then?

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dom, if you get that plastic ultima kit car I'm sure you'll have to get used to tiv style problems mate! Get yourself some greasy overalls and spanners.

POST 34Original post

Cheers Dom. So did that Golf GTi you were in!

POST 35Original post

Basically, different engine based on the C2 lump not the earlier 930 one. Turbo lag is same as far as I've ever noticed between the two. The 3.6 pulls like UV in a brothel when you hit boost in third gear. Bumpers are same, apart from that rear centre section. 3.6 also came with big red brakes, split rim OZ wheels and had a snazzy 'turbo 3.6' badge on the back. There were a few other minor changes, I'm sure the suspension was mildly tweaked as well, but mainly it is the engine, brakes and wheels that are different.

POST 36Original post

It won't be built by monkeys in Blackpool, but by chimps in Wycombe Ultimas go wrong less often that Tivs because they aren't so complicated... and use an engine that Bo and Luke Duke could rebuild in Uncle Jesse's shed. Keep it simple stupid, just put a sodding big engine in it

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I din't notice any lag as a passenger. However UV may have mashed the throttle a few seconds earlier than I thought! G force motorsport offer a twin turbo conversion to eliminate any lag anyway.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The ultimas are quite crazy. Trouble is I can't quite justify them. It's far too impractical for everyday use - obviously. This means it's just for weekends, but mainly trackdays to get the most from it. This is the problem. A £20k xtr2 / radical will piss on it for your £50k effort. Bit of a waste of time IMO.

POST 39Original post

I hope he is not abusing my baby by racing Tamoras

POST 40Original post

Doh! probabally not a good idea to boast about top speeds on an open forum, so the evidence is gone now mr plod.... >> Edited by iguana on Friday 22 November 15:21

POST 41Original post

I've posted this before, but here goes... The 3.6 is rare, and hence desirable. But in as much of an impartial opinion as I can give, I truly believe the 3.3 is the better car. Why? well for 3.6 money you can get a 3.3 with over 400bhp and original speedlines (Dom you should know better). The difference in the brakes is marginal (the rears are the same and the fronts are 928 GTS). The lag is where all the fun is and as Dom says is a function of the single turbo not the capacity. The big problem with the 3.6 is the fuel management system. I would use the word hybrid but this implies an amalgamation of 'best bits'. It's a very poor, for porsche, approximation to a mapped fuelling system. Hence, can be very, very problematic and a b!tch to diagnose. The 3.3 on the other hand is basic and well understood. It is also one of the most developed 911 engines ever. Basically it is bullet proof. The CIS on the 3.3 becomes an issue if you want more than 480bhp or decent fuel economy ( I get 8 mpg). Both cars are easy to tune but there is far more stuff available for the 3.3, if you don't like the lag that too can be tuned out. If I had 40k to spend when I bought my 3.3 I would have got a 3.6, but now i'm tuning the 3.3 i'm glad I didn't. Your other option is to buy a 964 in good nick and send it to Ruff for a full BTR/CTR conversion. That should put a smile on your face and a dent in your coin carrier...

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm off for a peek in Ruf's site...

POST 43Original post

Ive seen more 3.3s with engine management probs that 3.6s. New metering heads the only option on 2 diff misbehaving 3.3s ive known.

POST 44Original post

there's no management on a 3.3, just a pipe and a tank (for a very small period of time) full of fuel.....

POST 45Original post

It might be Noah and the Ark basic, but it aint quite that simple!

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sounds like your car needs some kind of management with 8mpg! WTF?! Get that sorted out.

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What mpg do the rest of you 911ers get?

POST 48Original post

Yeah, Speedlines, not OZ - well done UV for correcting me RR - try saying that 20k Westie/Radical vs 50k on the Ultima forum, they would put you straight! Apparently, on track there is little in it, and cost of the Radical SR3 (my choice) would be about 40k anyway. Same as Ultima. Westie is a cheap option, maybe 25k, but... ...I'd rather gull wing doors, windscreen and roof, reliable V8 and supercar looks.

POST 49Original post

n/a 993 4wd, average about 22/24, at a steady 75mph i get about 36mpg (like that happens very often!). Track, mid teens. www.VerySideways.com

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dom, compare like with like. A new factory built ultima costs £70k (got a quote). A new built xtr2 cost £20k. Xtr2 beats ultima on track - simple. Even if you discount your own time in terms of build costs over the months, you still have £45k v £20k. The argument of second hand is still the same. A used Radical is £20k, used ultima is £40k. Your paying £20k extra for a roof. Add on top of that the difference between 5mpg and 40mpg and your looking at another few hundred quid a month. Why? It doesn't add up for what it is.

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Verysideways, your fuel stats read like the latest vw oil burner. I'm not entirely happy with UV's figures. It would be cheaper converting to rocket power on a day to day basis. I worked out my monthly fuel bill would rise from £120 now, to £360 on a T2! Bloody hell, I'm defecting to an elise!

POST 52Original post

UV I dont think you are quite right on this, however 9M is really the man for this question. But I do know the 3.3 T2 does not use exactly the same system as the older stone age but bullet proof technology on the 930 3.3 and it has been known to be problematic. The metering head probs cost something like £1500 or more to replace the item (it could be much more I'm a bit rusty ref prices) The 3.6 system is as far as im aware very similar to the T2 3.3 kit just as Dom says based around the 964 engine rather than the older 930 lump.

POST 53Original post

Incredibly, the tiny trip readout seems to be describing an amount which is, frankly, embarrassingly into double figures. 13. Must be stuck. Schnell, schnell!!

POST 54Original post

I am going to have to post this on the Ultima forum Log in and see what happens... LOL

POST 55Original post

I suppose perfection can be boring. Never mind you'll be back. Once you're a flat sixer it's with you in spirit for life. DAZ

POST 57Original post

Domster I have never seem a Radical do 200 mph ... my Ultima does I have raced against Rads from their first year and they are quick but 250 bhp and 400 Kgs does not equal 650 BHP and 950Kgs If you run slicks an Ultima will beat a Radical on the big tracks, never at Cadwell Park or Pembrey though !! If you want a bike engined car - why not a bike, that is faster in a straight line .... G Man

POST 58Original post

Perhaps, but i challenge any road legal bike to go round most tracks (Donnington, Cadwell, Brands, Silverstone) quicker than an XTR2/SR3 type vehicle. I've owned a BEC and several bikes and i know what's quicker on the twisties where i live if there's little traffic around. The BEC accelerated as hard as a YZF-R6 between the corners and was much better under braking and round the corners than any bike i've ridden. Anyone who's ridden a YZF-R6 will tell you it's usually as quick if not quicker than most bigger bikes through the twisty stuff. Just my .02 worth www.VerySideways.com

POST 65Original post

Funny I use my Ultima to go to work! and with 500+bhp and 0-100 in 7secs it destroys the XTR2 on acceleration to 100 (and 2 seconds quicker than the 911 turbo with unpgrade kit!). How many XTR2's go for trips round Europe? My ZX6R 600cc bike only did 36mpg, our Boxter S does 25mpg and my Ultima 15mpg+, and I don't believe the westfield will do better than 25mpg. Oh and you have missed the difference in quality out? My cossie will bestroy the Boxter on a circuit! but which would you rather have?
