Suggestion

When I had a '99 3.4 the idle was only fixed completely by replacing the AOS, which showed no normal signs of failure but must have been letting air by.

Guys and Gals. as always I turn to your knowledge to narrow down a niggling problem! I have believed I have a battery that was on its way out for a while now (poor starting). now that we have lights, heater, radio, wipers etc on, my 1998 has started revving very low, then pulsing upto 1000rpm twice, once you come off the gas, or take it out of gear, before returning to a steady normal idle. it actually stalled on me this morning. Now, I have found it only does this with lights or heater blowers on. its fine when all are turned off. interestingly, the battery charging gauge mirrors the rev counter as it pulses. oh yeah...and it wont start if you spark it up with lights or heater blowers on. can anyone throw me a bone here?? cheers guys. chris

Hi, surely you must investigate what you suspect to be a dodgy battery and or charging system first before moving on to look at idle issues etc in the event that they are proven ok? I was always taught to rule out what you know and the basics first.

Idle should reduce with air con off and increase with air con on.
