Base is a 2011 and when I bought it two months ago... It was in very good condition except for the scratch (more like Wolverine's claws!) marks on both the left and right side door grab handles.
Finally found the time to send it to an auto leather repair specialist (in deepest darkest Kepong 🇲🇾 Malaysia mind you!) who did this for me in 5 hours today - Now wrapped in matching Nappa black leather with light grey stitching to match the handbrake finish 👍🏼
Cost? RM 250 each or USD 60. What do you think?
Here is what the finished door panel looks like...
Looks fantastic! Definitely worth the (very low) cost.
this reminds me of the super low cost of labor I miss from living in asian countries, looks so nice especially at that price! Did the door card have to be removed to get that done or did they do it with it on the car?
I will have to ask the workshop expert - I assume they had to remove the door card, but was kind of surprised if they did as there was no "Airbag warning" light after!
The workshop was so meticulous - I asked them for stitching on the black nappa leather, and they asked me if I wanted it above, or on the side, and then even called me back to say, "The stitching is not white on your hand brake, it is grey!". So they matched it near perfectly... I love it! Feels tactile and nice too....
That trim piece comes off without having to remove the door panel. Like everything else in the interior, it's held in by clips. Just use a plastic pry tool; open the door cubby and pry straight out on the vertical edge of the trim piece exposed with the cubby door open.
I love the tactile feel of the stitching and the soft smooth Nappa leather.
Ahhh, waiting at a traffic light or traffic jam is so much more bearable now when I run my fingers on the grab handle 😉
WOW! That is amazing looking! I wish I could do the same but cant find anyone in the US to do it.
Not too bad, I do like the split stitching detail.
I wish I could find a place in the US to do this.
I've got a sewing machine that will do leather. I need to learn to do this....
Really??? Wow! If you can I will pay you.
Well seeing as I'd be starting from ground zero....it may be a while. But it would be cool to be able to pull this off. I taught myself to do boat canvas....can't be that hard.
It would be more durable.
