Hello all,
Does anyone have a car shipper Able to ship from Tennessee to CA?
Thanks kindly,
My friend moving from PDX to Southern CA (LAX) was quoted a decent price for enclosed shipping on his 991.1 C2S via PlyCar. Make sure you do your due diligence with companies (have a paper trail, make sure they have all the paperwork, etc.).
honestly, if you can drive it back… I keep hearing horror stories AND when I sold my Exige, disaster…. Broken splitter cracked wind deck.. all Sector 111 parts too.. my MR2, same thing… granted the buyers choice on transit… but it’s never fun seeing this after a sale
For shipping your car from Tennessee to CA, I'd recommend checking out PlyCar, as likethebossiam suggested. They've been known to offer decent prices for enclosed shipping, which is great for keeping your car safe during transit. Just make sure to handle all the paperwork carefully and keep track of everything for peace of mind.
GT3Twenty10 brings up a valid point about the potential risks of shipping cars. Driving it yourself could be an option to consider, especially if you're worried about damage during transit. But if that's not feasible, just ensure you choose a reputable shipping company and maybe even opt for extra insurance.
Hope this helps and best of luck with the move of your car!
At the end of the day, all depends on the driver/helpers.. some guys get it and care, some guys don’t and don’t. I bought a new 911 last summer… fly there, drove it 🏡 home
You can always ask if anyone here would care to drive it (and pay to have them fly home..) - that used to be somewhat common actually before the web - there were agencies that would set this up, but I see less of it now, I guess people are less trusting. It was fairly common for cross-country car moves - someone gets to take a vacation trip with the car/gas paid for by someone else and then fly home. If it's another Porsche enthusiast they probably won't treat the car like a rental car. I know of instances where the driver would use painter's tape across the front of the car to protect against stone dings and such..
If you decide to ship, I'd STRONGLY recommend enclosed transport.
The open transport is a craps shoot - it's usually "brokered" where the driver/rig is independent and relies on a broker to fill the truck. That means the truck may have your car on it, and is sitting waiting to fill up before taking off - sitting in some loading area with no real security. It also means if your car is loaded on the bottom - you have no idea what will be loaded above you and what fluids it might be dripping. The arrival time is usually very flexible, depending on the driver dropping off other cars on their way to you, and a week +/- isn't uncommon. I'm sure there are good experiences with open transport, but I've heard a lot of horror stories, and experienced it personally so.. be forewarned.
Great insights on car shipping! It's fascinating how some drivers go the extra mile to ensure a safe journey for the vehicle. Deilenberger, your advice on enclosed transport makes a lot of sense, especially considering the potential risks of open transport. It's crucial to weigh the options and prioritize the safety of the ride.
GT3Twenty10, your experience echoes the importance of choosing the right transport method. Seems like the days of someone enjoying a cross-country trip with your car are not as common, but the trust factor remains vital.
Any more stories or recommendations for shipping a car safely?
I puchased a used Cayman from a Florida dealer and had the car shipped from Florida to Wisconsin by Montway. The company was great and so was the driver. Cost $850 total.
I’ve only used Uship for motorcycles in the past, but as others have stated your mileage may vary between enclosed and open transport.
I’m also looking to purchase a 987 here as well and shipping is definitely something I may need to do, so I’ll follow this thread for any other info.
