Hi,new to forums and own a 03boxster/1980 911sc, and might be buying a black 2006 CaymanS with 40,000km.Everything seems alright and works but the only concern before buying the car is it has no CaymanS decal on the rear trunk lid. This an optional decal if a custumer wanted a upgraded factory porsche piant job.The dealership said it is an option and it had a upgraded black metalic paint job at the porsche factory. This sound right?Checked carfax if any accendents and has none and seems to have clean reports. An other thing i nothiced is the carpet along passager side door was sort of out of place just a bit along the door area where it conects to door frame and tucks under the plastic door body frame.Anything esle i should be listening to or looking at when cars running like factory defaults or odd sounds from engine? thanks for reply's if any.
Buyers may select a model designation delete as an option. You can also purchase one from Porsche if you want to add it back. It isn't a decal by the way. The story about an upgraded paint job and "decal" seems very fishy and more of a sales pitch. And welcome here. Hopefully you will become an owner and post your car in our registry.
Oh, an edit. Ask the dealer to print out an RPM history of the car to make sure it has not been abused in its early life. Check the tires and make sure the price reflects their condition. Ask the dealer to certify that the car has not been modified or if it has to list those modificatons and to warranty them.
the metallic black paint (called "basalt black metallic") is an extra-cost option as well - it could be what the dealer meant by "upgraded" paint.

I like the look of the rear trunk without the Cayman S. It gives, to me, a much cleaner and attractive look. As stated there is an option- "Delete Model Designation" It is a no cost option and I chose it.

Thanks for reply's. Sitting and driving the cayman seems to have more leg and arm room in the cab then my 2003 boxster. My mind playing tricks on me or is the true? One more thing do all 06 caymanS have that 10mm lowering car switch thingy?
No all do not. You should check the FAQ's and search for PASM to get some great info.
To add to Brad's post, if the car came from the factory with Basalt black metalic paint it would have the option code Z4 and the delete model designation option code is 498. The option codes should be in the manual, car paperwork, or on the inside of the front hood.
The absence of the Cayman S decal can indeed be due to the "Delete Model Designation" option, adding a sleek look to the vehicle. It's great for those preferring a cleaner aesthetic. Basalt black metallic is a premium color option, possibly what the dealer referred to. As for space, the Cayman might indeed feel roomier compared to the Boxster due to its design. Regarding the 10mm lowering option, not all '06 models have it; it's linked to the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, an optional extra. Always check the option codes for verification. Happy Porsche hunting!
