Surprisingly - my wife and I were in the car on a PCA event for most of a weekend, 2 days - and we used the cupholders the entire time.

The Rennline one I got is 3 inches deep but it's solid, no moving, flexing, changing size or location.

Using a non-slip pad or mat to hold your phone on the car's leather surface is a simple and practical solution, similar to how you secure your coffee in your G body 911.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hasn't fixed this issue in the 17 years they had the pop out ones above the glove box
There is a set of instructions here - detailed with photos and I think a 3-D printable part.. but you'll have to dig them out yourself. I'd suggest going to Google and doing something like "cupholder repair site
lanet-9.com" - that gives much better search results than our internal search engine.
Make believe it's not there.

Just tells you that you shouldn't be drinking and driving, not even coffee.
I got the Rennline one but haven't install it yet,
Let me see:
1) it doesn't continue to hold the container firmly
2) it swings from side to side when you make a turn
3) it's not large enough to hold an insulation coffee mug or cooler mug
4) it's not deep enough to hold a mug of any size
Is that effort?
Do you actually think it does any kind of adequate job of holding a coffee mug?
Not quite what I meant. If you are pulling it out, is your broken, and if so which parts as I am looking for one with a good flap, even if it has other problems.
Surprisingly - my wife and I were in the car on a PCA event for most of a weekend, 2 days - and we used the cupholders the entire time. Despite how it appears it's going to throw the mug out of the holder on any turn harder than 0.1G - the cups stayed in the cupholders and not a drop was spilled for the entire trip. It surprised me. It may be the last time I ever do anything like that again since I don't want to jinx it...
My concern with the cupholder is that it’s at best 2 inches deep, and most travel mugs are 6+ inches tall. Seems very top-heavy and likely to tip over. What were the approximate dimensions of your coffee cup that worked great?
Mine is mostly for water bottles, and works well except for the center door not staying closed.
And the center door is what keeps it from flopping on curves.
Well, if you hate yours, I'll take it off your hands.
Surprisingly around 7" tall. I thought they looked top-heavy, but I did close the holder down on the base of the cups so it gripped them fairly tight, and they held up fine. It may have been magic or something though.. so do at your own risk.
We use the cupholders all the time, and they work great for us. I get the large diet coke from McD's often, and it fits without issue:
I don't drink coffee, so I don't have a cup like you describe. But my wife does, and she has a double-wall cup holder that works in the cupholder fine as well. It's metal, 7" tall, 2.8" diameter at the bottom, 3.4" at the top:
None of these have ever tipped or fallen out. I get that it does seem unstable, but it hasn't happened, even when I take on/off ramps fast. The only time I have spills is when the diet coke is extra full, and if you take a corner fast it comes out the straw hole a little and can splash out. It hasn't damaged anything, but for this reason, I usually take a few sips before I put it in.
The trick with the "swing" during turns is to close the door once the cup holder is extended. This causes the center section to close, and prevents it from swinging around.
I don't drive gently, and am often running WOT and taking corners hard on on/off ramps. My wife closes her eyes and "holds on" waiting for it to be over, haha. In the end, they have worked surprisingly well for us. Again, they look weird, seem very flimsy, but I can't say they don't work. Personally, I don't get the hate form so many, but to each their own...
My simple solution. It will probably ending up marring the leather after a while but such is life. I do the a similar thing in my G body
911
. That is my one and only coffee much, it goes everywhere with me. I either drink coffee out of that or water out of a Nalgene.

. My right cupholder won't stay locked in place, you push it in and it flys back out, so then the silver cup holder door won't stay closed. Do I need a new cupholder assembly?
I believe you would need a replacement assembly, as the latch doesn't appear to be sold separately.
Mine is still available, and I just dropped the price for you

Just got my
2008 cayman s
a few weeks ago and that cup holder was job 1. Miy right one was jammed closed with some sticky tape as it would have been stuck open. Thx to info here i pulled it out and found the small plastic part at the rear has a small nub that sheered off as it was a split nub to insert thru the small hole. Bad design as the split plastic weakened it (long ago i used to help design metal and plastic parts as a mech engr….too long ago). My buddy found the 3d design and even modified it even more so it slides better and thickened up a few portions of it. Small nail inserted into hole…snip the end….a little sanding. Reinsert into the assembly and damn it doesnt work probably better than the original. Cost me a bbq sandwich and a beer for payment…ok so it was 2 of each as i had to partake.
i think there was some other issue with a gear that breaks too but i dont yet have that issue.
at least its fixable. I was ready to do the aftermarket one for $145 i think it was but im happy with this for now.
