Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There were also problems when using the locking button on the dashboard, the red light would be illuminated constantly.
Leading evidence: 'Use locking button' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use locking button' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ordered a replacement of EBay and fitted it, problem solved!
I have the seemingly common issue of unlocking the car and getting 2 beeps of the horn and the car confusing itself as to whether it is locked or unlocked. I can open the car and drive it normally, but on opening the door, window drops then the car immediately locks itself again and the window goes up. Frustratingly it doesn't do this every time, it runs ok for a while, then it starts playing up. I have read all of the other threads on here and have bought a new relay cable, but have seen some thoughts on getting a new lock mechanism too.
Has any one had exactly the same experience as I have and what was your cure? I don't want to dismantle more of the door than I need to, but want to fix it properly.
Thanks.
I had this problem a long time ago and it was down to a faulty switch in the armrest compartment which affects the locking of the car if it is not closed properly. Might be worth checking.
To add to this, I believe there are a whole host of microswitches, including several in the door, the frunk, the decklid, the armrest that can cause this type of problem.
Essentially the car thinks a door/latch is open somewhere. Check that none of them are, then ask deMort on here on best way to trouble shoot. I'm not sure if a diagnostic report will tell you which switch(es) is goosed on the 996. He's typically online from around 7pm each day. :thumb:
I had the same problem, and traced it to the passenger side door lock mechanism. Ordered a replacement of EBay and fitted it, problem solved!
The symptoms were two beeps of the horn when unlocking and then a flurry of operation of the door mechanism. There were also problems when using the locking button on the dashboard, the red light would be illuminated constantly.

The part is a generic part and fits all VW/Audi group, just had to cut off part of a plastic lug to make it fit.
