Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Unsuccessful attempt
I fitted a k&n to mine as I felt the car sounded too shrill at revs and now sounds better with it on. No difference in power feel etc
Leading evidence: 'Install k&n' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install k&n' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 1 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I've always preferred engine induction noise over exhaust noise. Can anyone confirm if a K&N style intake sounds good? As the engine is so far behind the driver, I'm not sure if you'd be able to hear it.
I'm sure this does nothing for performance but I don't mind sacrificing a few ponies for a decent engine induction note.
Thanks!
Hi yes it sounds awesome, i have the 3.6 variocam and it sounds awesome when it hits 5k. I swapped it for a Evo ms intake, have the K&N for sale if interested. (its a bit scruffy so would sell cheap)
mine was dyne's with & without and it cost 2bhp! I can live with that loss, the sound more than makes up for it
Thanks guys.
Does this and exhaust manifolds do anything to the way power is delivered - is it a bit more free-revving at the top end? (On a Carrera 3.4 or 3.6)
I'm not sure which K&N version you're referring to but I think the general consensus is to keep the original air box, put a BMC filter in it with a cold air induction pipe blocking off the helmholtz resonator.
There was a video knocking about on here showing a small HP increase doing this way. (Very small)
If your talking about the cone shaped K&N filter then they generally draw in hot air from the engine bay which is why you can see a small decrease in HP, although I am led to believe they sound quite good.
Headers will add quite a lot of exhaust noise rather than induction, but it's all a personal taste with small gains or losses. I've done both. I've notice a small increase in pedal response but that's probably my imagination
The whole debate on the cone filter has been done many times before. I think everyone acknowledges its not going to make any difference power wise but noise wise it's brilliant.
