Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys As above, twice I have come back to my car when its been locked for some time and found the window half open. Any clues as to what could be causing this? Stay safe best Edward

POST 2Original post

Perhaps need resetting ? Check on YouTube or someone on here might have a better idea if possible.

POST 3Original post

Re: 996 Windows opening involuntarily when locked Some discussion here, may be of some use? http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=721260

POST 4Original post

Re: 996 Windows opening involuntarily when locked What's the battery like ? voltage etc Windows drop when battery drops low (happened to me) with alarm going off at the same time.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for these guys, I will have a read. The battery is ok.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, This has evolved (in the sense it stopped then has started up again but differently!). Now when I shut the passenger door the window doesn't drop and the glass is left outside of the rubber guide, I only noticed as it sounded very loud and windy driving along the motorway! This points to the microswitch I gather, question is do I need to replace both door's microswitch or just the one in the passenger door? The locks etc were playing up and red light on the dash etc which I gather is all linked. Best Edward

POST 7Original post

There's two micro switches which drop the window 10mm in each door. One on the exterior handle and one on the interior. Which handle isn't dropping the window when pulled? I've replaced both. Inner is harder to source.

POST 8Original post

You mentioned it was half way down when you came back to the car. Do you mean really half way down, or just in the 'drop' position for entry? I ask because random operation of the windows (and other weirdness) is mentioned in JMG Porsche's fault diagnosis of the security computer. This computer is under the passenger seat and is very prone to water damage.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you, it was far enough down for a toerag to put their hand in and nick my (old) satnav out of the glove box thing in the door! Fair play to them to be honest, I could never get it to work anyway! The main thing now is the fact its not always locking properly and often has red light on the dash on in the centre console. Sounds like I need one or two microswitches, the outer one is definitely not working, not sure re inner, need to check

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I checked last night, it seems to be the outer door handle not dropping it.

POST 12Original post

If the inner ones works, then it should just be the outer handle sensor. Not that expensive, about £30 from memory. Easy to do with the door card off. Mine was actually disconnected, which I presume someone had done as something to do with the inner handle sensor being properly broken. I replaced it anyway, but still have the original as a spare.

Cheers, I assume this sort of thing? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362715393334
