Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just bought a first generation boxster with a blown engine for my son and a new (used) engine for $4500 thinking I can get a real good deal.

Well, that project is probably going to now run closer to 15K when all is said and done...Looking at the CL I just found a Boxster for $6200 with IMS upgrade.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Dear 996 gurus...
I've been studying the 996 market here in Europe for a while, and I'm struggling with a very basic question.... Do I spend my budget on the best car I can afford with a few grand in reserve for fixes, or do I look for a high mileage car with solid body and interior and plan an immediate engine rebuild (including IMS, etc..)? I can find cars that seem to have pretty solid body and interiors with over 200k kilometers trading in the Euro 15-17k range, and cars that have solid motors and low miles (less than 100k) km for about Eur 25-27. I'm less concerned about resale, and more concerned with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the mechanicals are fully refreshed and updated...
Welcome any words of wisdom from this learned group.....
Figure a proper rebuild, addressing all of the known issues, will probably cost you $20,000+ (USD), and it might get you closer to your answer. Personally I'd buy the best one I could, with a few grand in reserve for whatever might come up. I think you're first inclination is the best one.
Definitely, the best one you can afford. I just bought a first generation boxster with a blown engine for my son and a new (used) engine for $4500 thinking I can get a real good deal. COuld have saved 9K I will never get back if I would have just bought the best car instead of trying to go after a deal.
Thanks....exactly how often have you had such regrets
I'm inclined to buy the best car I can afford, but given that over time I may want to modify, I'd rather throw out worn components and replace with new suspension, new exhaust, etc...guess I've seen too many Singer and Magnus videos....
