Also there was a LOT of sealer used on the pan but looking at the sealing surfaces there is almost no sealant on these actual surfaces.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, 1999 996 C2 Cab, 143K miles. Own the car for a little over a year and having a lot of fun with it. No idea of past service history etc. Changing to Spin-on filter and changing oil. I pulled the pan and cut open the filter. Found lots of brown pieces in pan and filter and a lot in the oil pick up. Only one small metal piece. They seem to be plastic. Timing Chain guide? Any thoughts on a plan of action? Also there was a LOT of sealer used on the pan but looking at the sealing surfaces there is almost no sealant on these actual surfaces. Is this normal or where the bolts tightened too much? Pieces in Oil Pickup Pieces from bottom of oil pan and filter From Oil Pickup A LOT of sealer was used
