Has anyone else had difficulties using the Build Your Porschefeature on the official Porsche web site? I cannot get beyond the screen that shows the main stats (Displacement, HP etc...). Any advice would be appreciated as I would like to play around with different configurations before sitting down with my dealer to place the build order.
PS - I've tried on two different systems using Mozilla and Internet Explorer with pop-up blocker turned off.
Welcome TJM.....
The Porsche 'Build Your Own' can be a bit cranky at some times........the 3D version requires Shockwave that can make it more troublesome.......have you tried the simpler 2D version? Not as good, but might help.
The BYO is just one of the tools you can use.......but there are many other 'better' ones to use IMO. First, most of the colors on the website are not anywhere near what they are in real life.....black, red, white, and yellow are fine......the rest are pretty far off.......same for many of the interior colors.......they just aren't that correct. Use the BYO to put together pricing, see explanations for options, etc......the rest is a little bit useless.
My advice when it comes to colors (both interior and exterior) is to visit your dealer(s) often to see the colors in person. A good dealership will have all the samples of paint and interior colors.......walk around with them.....walk outside to compare. Formost options......try and drive Boxster Ss with the options you are looking at if possible. If your looking at PASM, Sport Chrono, etc.......drive cars with and without them to compare.....then decide. Same for different wheel and tire combos.
Many of us here have come across a lot of color combos (even have pictures of) and have opinions on options.....just ask away......this is one of the most fun timeswhen buying a Cayman......and also one of the most madening!
The main page does not seem to allow you to 'build your porsche'for meeither. I suggest that you click on 'models', then click on 'cayman s' and then click on 'build your porsche'. That should work.
When I was using it I had problems as well. Somedays it did not seem to work at all. You might just have to wait and come back to it later. I just tried the 2D version and it is working fine for me now.
Thanks for the advice - I've tried to enter the site from many angles and the issue may be with my system as the bottom and left edge of the screens are partially cut off, keeping me from clicking the 2D option and other buttons that move from screen to screen. I agree with the advice on the color combo's; I stop by my local dealer at least once a week in an attempt to narrow my choices (so far it's not been successful!).
tjm,
Do you mind telling me what colors you are considering? I have to tell you I changed my mind almost daily until I knew it was too late.

Yea, I find tis really annoying. I have Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox browsers on my CPU and all don't get the thing working, in their own 'special' way.
