The Mission: As you've guessed from the foto, I'm going to replace the hose with the updated hose and 997 type snout.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Issue: Since an AOS replacement ~2K miles ago there has been a miniscule, but irritating leak from the large passenger side coolant hose (it's an '04 Tip, so engine came out). The Mission: As you've guessed from the foto, I'm going to replace the hose with the updated hose and 997 type snout. While I have the system open, I'm going to change to a low temp thermostat. The Questions: Since the system is full of fresh coolant, I'm considering reusing it, if I can keep it clean as it's removed. So, which side to break into first or drain from the motor another way? Also the OEM gaskets have the fine sealer strip on them. Is that adequate or is applying something in addition recommended? All responses appreciated!

POST 2Original post

Yes, drain from the engine first, then the BIG hose connected to the thermostat. Then you should not have more coolant coming out during your work. No sealant is needed. The gasket alone is good but just make sure the mating surfaces are clean, flat and smooth.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Duncan! How's your 3.8 kickin'?

POST 4Original post

Anytime! My 3.8 is running well. ~1,500 miles since rebuild now. I'm enjoying it almost everyday and wish I have more time to put more miles on it. When I drove my 3.6 again, it felt like it was 200lb heavier
