Checked the price of replacement and they range from £around £140 up to £350, funnily enough, they are all Bosch, some obviously trying to make a killing out of Porsche owners.

Easy to actuate with a 9v battery on the bench too which is a good way to check the action.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys Need some advice regarding my ICV on my 1998 3.4 Carrera 2. When the ignition is switched on, I get a buzzing sound from the ICV but it does not affect the running and doesn't bring any warning lights up on the dash. It has produced a fault code but only that it is showing an error produced by the ICV. Will this need replacing or is it something that can be remedied by removing, cleaning and replacing? Appreciate any advice :worship:

POST 2Original post

They're easy to take off and clean, mine was really gummed up! Plenty of brake clean and a brush should do the job. It's spring loaded and should be easy to move when it's off the car. Easy to actuate with a 9v battery on the bench too which is a good way to check the action.

POST 3Original post

Yep.... there's very little to the valve itself - gently cleaning it should resolve any mechanical source to the noise... if that doesn't resolve it its then just move straight on to replacing it with a new genuine Bosch ICV Note - be gentle/careful re the paper gasket between the ICV and throttle body to avoid tearing it, or have a replacement ready

POST 4Original post

I can only echo what's been said above .. it's buzzing when it shouldn't ( trying to move ) .. there is a fault code saying there is a problem .. to me its stuck .. probably in a position that's perfect for the car on idle but stuck nonetheless .. I would start by trying to clean it .. failing that i would replace it .

Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice. I will be taking it off and giving it a good clean today. Fingers crossed that will do the trick.
