Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I used builders damp proof membrane tape that I had in the garage.

I have used silicone sealer in the past with limited success, but now use butyl tape which is very close to the real stuff.

Suggestion
If it got severely torn, I'd probably replace it, but if you peeled it back carefully, I'd just check for damp on the carpets.

So check all screws and bolts are tight before sealing it all up.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Replaced drivers window regulator a while back. Had to peel back the original plastic membrane to gain access under the door card. It doesn't stick back down again so I just put it back in place and put the door card back on.
Does this plastic membrane play any specific role? Moisture, noise? Wonder how other people have dealt with this? As I read nearly everyone with a 996 has had to replace the window regulator at some stage.
My passenger side regulator is now crunching away so clearly needs replacing
Thanks
Craig
I put mine back in place and put the door card on top. It's held into place by many other means too, so it's not going to move.
A lot said I'd have leaks in the car as water got in via the window to door joint, but even with the recent torrential rain, my car which is parked outside has remained bone dry for months. I didn't tear it and it's pushed back in exactly the same place anyway by the door card.

Hi
I have used silicone sealer in the past with limited success, but now use butyl tape which is very close to the real stuff. It comes beaded on a roll and you can thin it out as much as necessary. Works great. Ebay is your friend.
Best of luck

It does play a role in keeping water out of the car. My car got seriously wet inside last winter (it lives outdoors) but replacing the driver's door seal has sorted it. Mind you at about £50 it should!
I recently had to repair the membrane on my drivers door as whoever had been in there previously had hacked it to bits. I used builders damp proof membrane tape that I had in the garage. Nice and sticky and flexible and works a treat.
I tightened up the 2 loose bolts that were making a noise while I was in there and it has transformed my driving experience as it is much less rattly inside. So check all screws and bolts are tight before sealing it all up.
Thanks for responses on this. I'll have to check out the buytl tape when I get round to fixing the passenger side. So far everything is dry and we have had some serious rain recently.
Probably because the membrane behind the door card is damaged. Rain gets inbetween the glass and the rubber seal and enters the door cavity. The membrane is there to prevent and water ingress into the car.
If your door cards are getting exceptionally wet then it might also be worth checking that the drain holes in the bottom of the door aren't blocked, although I suspect you would hear the water sloshing around if that was the case.
