Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
The 986 has comfort windows, so I suspect the 996 has too.
Leading evidence: '996 has too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '996 has too' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). It does however have comfort windows using the key in the door.

Well as I have a MY2003 USA 986 I can say it does not have comfort windows using the remote.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

In the poor weather the other week I had not been out on mine for about 5-6 days. I was surprised to open the garage and find both front windows half way down and the bonnet popped open. I know it wasnt left like this.
Car has a brand new battery a few months ago. Obviously a bit worried if I was leaving it in an airport car park or outside for a while (unlikely but you never know!)
I know when it has been left for a while the remote central locking disables and you have to manually open but haven't read anything similar before.
Any thoughts or similar experiences?
Craig
Did it start and run OK? If so, the battery sounds OK.
Could someone have been fiddling with the key? If you were to press the unlock button for a few seconds, the doors would unlock, and windows would open on the 'key comfort feature'. Then, if you left it for one minute without opening a door, the car would re-lock itself automatically, but the windows would not go up.
I didn't think 996s had comfort windows via the remote just the key in the door lock. I thought remote comfort was introduced with the 987/997.
Could be a faulty door lock though.
The 986 has comfort windows, so I suspect the 996 has too.
Edit:
I just checked and my 2001MY UK manual details this feature, however the 2000MY and 2003MY USA ones I have copies of do
not
.

Our USA 996 Cab also had comfort roof but again using the key in the door.
.... You mean to say the UK got something the US didn't other than the steering wheel on the wrong side [

Could have been something else in your pocket which was pressing against the remote button perhaps? I periodically find my BlacbBerry has been trying to ring someone because I forgot to lock the keys before putting it in my pocket. [8|][8|][8|]
No one had access to the keys and car started fine.
Just been and checked and yes, if you press and hold the open doors button both windows lower for as long as you press it. Guess it must have been trapped on one of the other keys or fob and triggered the bonnet release.
One thing I love about these cars is you still find something new about them even when you have read the books!
Problem solved- thanks for the help guys [
