Suggestion

Alternatively it's not super hard to replace the cowl with new if you have a puller for the wipers.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi All! 2 small issues I could use advice on. 1 - The plastic around the hood & windshield is graying a bit. Anything I can use to keep it black? 2 - I noticed the dash trim piece by the bottom of the windshield is cracked. :-( I found the replacement part, but is it an easy pop out / pop in job? Or a hassle? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

There are various trim blackening products you can use. Easiest I've found to use is Stoner Trim Shine, you just spray it on and wipe off the overspray. It doesn't last crazy long but really easy to apply. If you want the fix to last longer you can try stuff like Back to Black or Armor All Outlast: basically dressings or dyes that you rub into the plastic. It's a bit of a PITA on the 987 because of the texture and nooks and crannies but they work. Alternatively it's not super hard to replace the cowl with new if you have a puller for the wipers. That's what I did a few years ago. Here's what I bought, though it looks like the cowl pice is now $210-250 so prices have gone up.

POST 3Original post

I would use a ceramic coating on the cowl. Not only will it bring the black back, but it will last a very long time. I’m talking about a true ceramic coating rather than a detailing type spray which has a very small amount of ceramic. Something like Gtechniq.

POST 4Original post

I second this... I used CQuartz Dlux wheel and plastic coating and it made it almost new again.

POST 5Original post

I'll quadruple the recommendation for ceramic coating the cowl plastic. I did mine over 2 years ago when I did the rest of the car, and it still looks like brand new. DO scrub it well with an alcohol and water solution (50/50) to get any old goop off it. Two coats works great, and it will about instantly look new. If you really like doing it - carry on down to the plastic in the frunk for a brand-new look.
