Oh yes - Like worry about depreciation - three years ago, my wife's best friend wanted a cute, used sports car.

Stuck with slow leak on aircon that will be a £300 fix but otherwise first 1500 miles have been flawless with mpg ranging from 24 - 34mpg depending on the trip and using super unleaded.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My bro's best friend has £20,000 to spend and I am trying to convince him to get a Porsche (996) if poss for that price. He has always wanted one but is worried about fuel MPG, it will be for a daily drive from Cobham to Farnborough. He has always had BMW's or Audi S3 etc He is currently looking at Z4 :nooo: :nooo: any ideas or views ? it has to be sporty and deff BMW, Audi or Porsche (not boxster) His fiance will not allow anything old or high mileage. Mark at Stirlings already sorted another friend out and if there are any out there in the trade, there is a customer here to be had.

POST 2Original post

I've driven a 3L Z4 and while it was quick it just didn't feel that special... Since your friend's Mrs objects to "old & high miles", I don't know if any of the more recent 996's will fall within his budget... I'm sure I saw a thread of a 996 owner wanting to sell his very low mileage (~20k) early-ish 996, and he was being advised that it wouldnt fetch more than 20k. Can't track down the thread, but i'm sure it is either on this site or PH... Sorry I can't be of more help, but it might be worth a look...

"worried about fuel MPG" :wack: Tell him to find something else to worry about :thumb:

POST 4Original post

Oh yes - Like worry about depreciation - three years ago, my wife's best friend wanted a cute, used sports car. I told her to go Boxster for 20k. Instead she bought an ex-demo Z4 with loads of extras for close to 40k. Now worth 12-14k... 25k will buy you about 25,000 litres of petrol!! LOJO

POST 5Original post

Not sure what he wants but I managed a private sale 2002 996 3.6 C2 manual with 50k FPSH facelift with change out of 20k - fully serviced as part of purchase by Camtune with new clutch, tyres, rms, disks, pads, tracking etc.....£3k bill to seller. Stuck with slow leak on aircon that will be a £300 fix but otherwise first 1500 miles have been flawless with mpg ranging from 24 - 34mpg depending on the trip and using super unleaded. Cant comment on any other costs - plenty of others have more experience. Also looked at similar C4 trip with less miles, more toys but without full history that the chap would have taken £19k - advertise at £21k. best bet is to spend the time doing thye homework, go look at a few and Go forth and haggle!
