They looked to be in good shape, bearing spun fine so I re-used after re-greasing the bearings.
Leading evidence: 'Use after re-greasing the bearings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace very tired original suspension' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm using OEM strut mounts, same used ones that came off the car.

I am running Bridgestone RE-11's on the vehicle and would like to get as much life as possible out of them.

Suggestion
My car in comparison, has some roll (but MUCH better than OEM) but NVH has only increased in the rear since the PSS10 remove the rubber spring isolater when re-using the OEM top hat.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
The time has come to replace the very tired original suspension on my 2002 Targa. I got a great deal on some KW V1's from a fellow rennlister (Thank you GBX) and I just want to make sure Im covering all my bases here before install. I'll be mating the V1's to Elephant Racing camber plates for both the front and rear, and I plan to have the GT3 alignment specs set. The V1's will be run at the "highest" setting (in terms of height).
My question is in regard to bump steer - I did some searching on the forum but didn't find any definitive answer - Should I be ordering a bump steer kit to be installed with the coilovers, or should I wait to see if I am experiencing any bump steer or adverse tire wear before purchasing? I am running Bridgestone RE-11's on the vehicle and would like to get as much life as possible out of them.
Any suggestions, whether it be in regards to suspension geometry or bump steer would be great.
Thanks!
Not sure that you need the camber plates, the existing top hats should work fine. Performance and extended tire life are kind of opposing concepts. Is this just for street use or track and AutoX as well?
I am more or less doing the camber plates because they are stiffer than the OEM mounts. Sorry if my original post was confusing - Im not necessary looking for extended tire life, but I don't want to be unnecessarily wearing them, or having my car dart left or right when I hit a bump.
This vehicle will be seeing AutoX and very light track duty, if any at all.
Kjan,
Just finished installing PSS10's on my C2 Aero. IMO I have not noticed any bump steer. I have it lowered to about factory GT3 height, maybe slightly higher. If you drop the car a lot you may introduce bump steer but that was not the case for me.
Camber was -1.4 in the front using the inner most bolt holes on the front mounting point using all OEM pieces. This is good for street use, maybe not enough camber for hard auto-X or track use. I wanted a fast road setup so that was perfect.
I was also considering camber plates for the same reasons as you but I also like to drive my GF around in the car and didn't want to turn the 911 into yet another track car (lol). I'm using OEM strut mounts, same used ones that came off the car. They looked to be in good shape, bearing spun fine so I re-used after re-greasing the bearings.
I've driven another 996 with PSS9's, GT3 bars, Tarret camber plates, tarret end links...the car had 0 roll at all but had a wee bit more NVH over road cracks than I wanted. This helped me to decide that I would probably prefer to keep the OEM rubber if I didn't need the additional camber. My car in comparison, has some roll (but MUCH better than OEM) but NVH has only increased in the rear since the PSS10 remove the rubber spring isolater when re-using the OEM top hat. Overall it's still a comfortable place to be in. I also have stock sway bars...the upgraded sways should reduce roll quite a bit.
I was able to keep -1.4 up front, and could get -1 to -2 or so in the rear no problem with the camber eccentrics.
I should mention I actually like a tiny bit of roll as it lets me feel what the car is doing as I turn in when driving on bumpy roads. Cars that are razor sharp are harder to drive at the ragged edge...better managed when at the track.
Thanks for the info. That being said, I may just opt for (new) OEM mounts. Decisions, decisions... I like the idea of tightening up some of the body roll with the sway bars. I guess it comes down to if I'm going to want additional camber down the road or not.
