Hello,
Like the title of the video says, I have a 987
Cayman S
with 75,000 miles. Every 2-3 weeks my oil level goes from the middle of the electronic dipstick to blinking low with no warnings like oil pressure or check oil level messages. I replaced the air oil separator as I saw fresh oil from the quick disconnect style pipe accessible from the engine bay. It slowed down the oil leak but it still drains.
There are no fluids on the floor, motor, or intake manifold. There is also no smoke on start up aside from the usual Any thoughts on what I should check or did I maybe get a bad air oil separator?
I have a 2 QT Deep Sump Oil Pan but no leaks are present at the extended gaskets or base of the pan. Coolant looks dark pink, its a strange color but it's also not a milkshake.
Just clarifying, by usual start up smoke I mean like how regular cars give out a small white puff when starting in the cold.
I think it might be helpful if you included the year/model of your
Cayman
- there are different engines used and they have different issues. I'd immediately ask:
Year and Model?
How long have you owned it?
Has it always done this? If not what changed around the time it started doing this?
Do you have service records for the car?
Have you ever changed the coolant? If so - what was the color when you put it in? Coolant doesn't change color normally - it only does that if horribly overheated or contaminated by some other engine fluid mixing with it.

Hello,
It is a 2007
Porsche Cayman S
I've owned the car for 3 years now
It has only done this for the past 3 months, nothing has changed in this time period other than me changing the oil like I've done for the past 3 years.
I only have minimal service records from carfax history. I've replaced the engine since then because the track motor blew up (surprisingly not on the track), replaced with a good motor that we scoped out and all that. Basically all internals of the car and accessories on the car are brand new like the water pump,
alternator
, etc.
I changed the coolant during my engine replacement job 2 years ago. I've only put on 5000 miles since then.
I looked at what the pink coolant looks like and the coolant I have and they are actually not different, I guess I just expected a brighter pink looking at the
cap
of the coolant bottle.
This car is tracked 2-3 times a year.
OK - cool. What was the mileage of the replacement engine when you installed it? And now?
It wasn't clear to me (humor me - I'm old..) if the oil consumption started before or after the new engine.
Has the new engine been to the track? If so - have you seen any relationship between track use and oil consumption?
Which
AOS
did you install with the new engine? If it's an aftermarket one (not OE
Porsche
) I have heard mixed reviews and early failures of some of the aftermarket ones.
When you installed the deep sump - how did you handle the oil level sensor? Does it mount through the bottom of the sump, or down from the top in a flange?
