a careful clean can make a difference, although you need to be very careful as to not clean off some of the coating as well as the grime so it degrades quicker second time

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been trying since December 08 to cover 300+ miles out of a full tank on my MY00 C2. My test is simple, no motorways, just every day commutes to and from work. Fill the car to the brim then drive until the warning light comes on and at that point see how many miles you have covered. The best I had had so far was 241 miles (The MUI reading when full read an average of 320 miles) New MAFS last week... new results: 327 miles - just filled back up and my MUI reads 414 miles! Quite happy with the results, my driving style is made up of boring traffic jams then the odd blast here and there but mainly I have been trying to drive as economical as possible.

POST 2Original post

Lloyd One more good reason to keep the car Yes?

POST 3Original post

the efficiency of the Mass Air Flow Sensor, nice work a careful clean can make a difference, although you need to be very careful as to not clean off some of the coating as well as the grime so it degrades quicker second time as new they are pricey £250-350??

POST 4Original post

wow thats an incredible increase, I will definately be giving mine a careful clean. Just have to find the little blighter. Best i have managed is 310 on a tank and that was a long run, otherwise I also get about 240-250.

POST 5Original post

What was the overall MPG? - That sort of figures with no motorway truly is impressive. Surprised you didn't fall asleep!! What was wrong with the previous MAFS? and was this a DIY job? Cheers

POST 6Original post

Sundeep - I havent heard about this coating. What sort of Coating is it... can it be reapplied? What do you guys use to clean it (as in products ect)?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an account with Bosch GMBH - £135 all inc. Bosch = OEM The MAFS is located in the top part of the air filter box, it has wires going to it. My AVMPG is currently 28.4, drops down in jams but goes back up when driving Mrs Daisy. Yes it has been boring.... now time to have fun oh and yes... it is tempting to keep the car

POST 8Original post

28 MPG on a local????!!! - Did you swap the engine out by any chance as well?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was around 18 - 23 before I did the MAFS

POST 10Original post

I was filling up and recording the mileage and averageing 25 mpg. Retrofitted an OBC stalk and it tells me I'm doing 22.1 mpg although calcs still point toward 25 :dont know: Will get the air flow looked at next service if it makes that much difference. TB

POST 11Original post

Could you tell me where the MAFS is located and what you use to clean it with..? any advice would be much appreciated, Cheers Ian

POST 12Original post

wow i only get around 18mpg, it has only just been to porsche and they found nothing wrong with it. Would the maf be covered by the new style warranty?

POST 13Original post

I found my fuel consumption was very poor just before my clutch went. New clutch installed and I'm now getting better than 25mpg. Ray

POST 14Original post

You will need a T20 Security Torx driver to undo the two fixing screws. Best way to remove it is to undo the two screws first and pull it out the housing. Then undo the clip. The one shown is for early C2s - later ones have the clips on the long edge, and it's much easier to undo them once the MAF is removed. I use a solvent cleaner I get from RS, but you can get a contact cleaner from somewhere like Maplins. IMO, cleaning is just a temporary solution. If it has done more than 50,000 miles, get a new one.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now I am back to driving normal, odd thrash here and there mixed with usual commute style driving my miles per tank this time worked out around 280 - 300 which is still very reasonable. Current AVMPG reading is 24.8 but has been dropping by 0.1 every few miles, hopefully it should balance out around 24
