Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Basically, you can use compressed air to pop the pistons out by pushing compressed air into the caliper where the brake fluid line connects.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I removed the pads from my 2006 CS. On the passenger side the brake shims were hopelessly rusted into the brake pistons. I ended up tearing up the sheet metal, attempted to drill a hole to get leverage, and ended up with a trashed caliper. Any ideas on how to remove the pistons and the rusted shims? (The shims are added to the photos for context).

POST 2Original post

Do a YouTube search for Porsche caliper rebuild. Basically, you can use compressed air to pop the pistons out by pushing compressed air into the caliper where the brake fluid line connects.

POST 3Original post

As I need to do this soon, do you really need to remove the shim to remove the pads? Checked a few youtubes and hoping I don't have to touch them.....

POST 4Original post

I decided to remove them because they are "glued" to the back of the pads with 3M adhesive. You pull off the paper cover and install them. This is supposed to reduce noise. Mine were deformed after I pulled the pads out. Who knows? I try to go by the book so to speak. Some people omit them altogether. At the very least some of the red brake goop might make sense.
