The backlight for the lcd display under the rev counter for speed and OBC display has gone kaput leaving me to use the analogue speedo and curse the instrument binnacle regularly.

Has anyone ever had the problem my car has just thrown up? The backlight for the lcd display under the rev counter for speed and OBC display has gone kaput leaving me to use the analogue speedo and curse the instrument binnacle regularly. I despise taking apart dash bits in any way and suspect I'll have to get someone who knows what they're doing to look at this. I've a feeling it might be painful :nooo:

If you have a pre-facelift 996, then the backlighting bulbs can be changed. Yes, you have to take off the instrument cluster and strip it down. If it's a facelift car the cluster uses LEDs, and if they go you are stuffed.

Phew, doesn't sound so bad - pre facelift thankfully. Stripping down the cluster sounds like a job I should avoid - or is it reasonably straightforward? I'm quite a handy type but things often go wrong when I tackle plastic bits on cars!

I had the same problem, it's an easy fix and cheap bulb from OPC... Just becareful not to scratch the dash... :thumb:

Dunc It's very straight forward as I have just replaced mine for LEDs, When you put the new bulb in just check it's working before you replace the dash. TB
