When I changed my oil about a month ago, the filter was clean with just a tiny bit of "metal dust" on the magnetic drain

Suggestion

"Higher" moly is probably due to LiquiMoly MoS2 I added previously and high Magnesium may be due to M1 changing its formulation for SP.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Was curious about the metal wear - IMS / bore scoring. When I changed my oil about a month ago, the filter was clean with just a tiny bit of "metal dust" on the magnetic drain plug . Sent a sample to Blackstone and got this. I included the "old" (from 5+ years ago?) VOA for my reference / comparison for both SP and SN (I originally only listed SN hence the lower Magnesium number). "Higher" moly is probably due to LiquiMoly MoS2 I added previously and high Magnesium may be due to M1 changing its formulation for SP. Just FYI

POST 2Original post

That does look like the SP formula, rather than the old SN formula(VOA column). Much less detergents(Calcium+Magnesium) than the old formula, so hopefully better regarding bore scoring on the 3.4L+ engines.

POST 3Original post

Thanks and got the same reply on BITOG...are you the same guy??

POST 4Original post

FWIW, @Hoster987 - I like the Blackstone reports as that's just pure science (I used to do elemental analysis in a lab for a major Pharma company). If they said their analysis was good (I think your engine is the first five line items; the rest is from your oil), I think you're fine. FWIW - You can always email them and ask. They're great about such things per recommendations!

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the feedback and advice as usual!! And I was mostly curious about the metal wear which is "normal." Since I am rather new to the porsche scene I thought this analysis can put my mind at ease

POST 6Original post

I can’t make any guarantees , but it looks promising! I would email the guys at Blackstone and get their take on this, TBH.
