Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Now, admittedly, as a 996tt owner i'd have liked to see the old timer have the best possible fighting chance by using a better chosen example, but even from a more casual standpoint I think the test could have been more enlightening to readers.
Leading evidence: 'Test could have been more enlightening' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). i) using the 2009 PGB demo car as opposed to a 2006/7 997tt - using the older model 997 would have been a much more valid and interesting comparison as its a more realistic alternative for people considering say a £45k 996tts - lets face it, no one considering buying an 09 997tt will be considering a no spec 2003 996tt

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was really looking forward to this article but having read it i thought it could have been a lot better. My main gripe is twofold;
i) using the 2009 PGB demo car as opposed to a 2006/7 997tt - using the older model 997 would have been a much more valid and interesting comparison as its a more realistic alternative for people considering say a £45k 996tts - lets face it, no one considering buying an 09 997tt will be considering a no spec 2003 996tt
ii) using such a poor example of a 996tt - boggo spec, 420hp, saggy comfort seats and 19" wheels which the 996 was never designed for :frustrated:
A test of 06 997tt v 05 996tts automatically removes the massive tech advantage of PCM3 because PCM2.1 in the 7 is barely different to PCM2.0 in the 6, and having an X50 engined PCCB braked 996 on correct 18" hollow spokes would offer much closer on-road straight line performance than a boggo 420hp, and a more resolved handling and ride than a 996 masquerading on 997tt 19"ers
Now, admittedly, as a 996tt owner i'd have liked to see the old timer have the best possible fighting chance by using a better chosen example, but even from a more casual standpoint I think the test could have been more enlightening to readers.
Rant over
I've not read the report myself but I would agree with ZeroH's arguments. I would even go so far as to say a fairer comparison would be a 2005 TT 996 vs a 2006 TT 997 and forget about the special S versions for now. Arguably, it's true someone who's looking at a 2009 Turbo would not really be considering a 996 of any kind.
If however the report was to highlight the advances made by the later Turbo over earlier models then it might be a valid story.

the article is probably aimed at those wishing to see how things have moved on.
Either out of curiously or because they may at some point go from a 996tt to a 997tt and want to know weather or not its worth it
Fair enough if the article is to show how much better a full spec 2009 997 turbo is than a no spec 2003 996 turbo but then the value angle should'nt be brought into it as its irrelevant to any real buyer.
Hmm... someone give me a column.. i'll write the article :thumb:
