Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friends, Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (1999) $19000 http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/cto/5653717285.html 1999 Red 911 $17500 http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/5626226309.html I have set my eyes on these 2. Not sure whether I want the lower milage C2 or the higher milage C4. Plus the C4's interior and exterior is more worn. And the C4 will end up costing me more even with higher milage (based on the asking price). Have looked at both (neither is perfect cosmetically) not done a ppi yet on either but want to start first with a ppi on the one I like more. What would you choose? Thanks

POST 2Original post

The C2 looks like a much better deal. Lower mileage and price, what's not to love?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409350

I am leaning towards it as well. I have a feeling that a c4 owner is flexible on price but those miles hmm. Not sure if the awd is worth all those miles.

POST 5Original post

What do the seats look like under those covers on the C2?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409399

Not bad.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 13409412

Yeah C2. You can probably get it for less, too.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks friends. On to ppi, let's see what that says and then hopefully can get this down by a little bit. Can't wait to get the car. My first manual. And I have a 2015 wrx for snow and rain so awd is not a must.

POST 12Original post

When in doubt, get the red one. The extra 25 hp guards red horsepower pack is a nice bonus.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409681

Plus attention from all the nice cops out there.

POST 14Original post

While it's convenient the C2 pics exclude the main wear point (driver left side), the C2 has my vote for car quality. Both are 99s so it's really about the ownership/maintenance trail, interior quality and AWD or no. Such a good price for that quality a C2! GL with your choice fwiw I'm biased towards blue normally. The red car just seems better overall

POST 15Original post

I'll probably get stoned for saying this, but I wanted a C2 because I love the relationship you make with the car when it comes to keeping the rear end in the rear.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409711

I saw the car today. The left is ok. It is one of the pics I posted. Not great quality pic. The guy had the car for 8 years and bought it from first owner has records (at least his). I will do carfax tomorrow.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 13409713

There is a reason the GT3 is RWD. AWD is better for launch times(if you have enough HP), RWD is better for track times.

POST 18Original post

As biased as I am in favour of Ocean Blue C4s, the C2 definitely seems like a better deal. FWIW - my C4 came with less than half the miles and was a couple of thousand cheaper than the one in New York. Those are some handsome wheels though, I might have to get a set.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409748

I am sure I can get the price down on C4 but the miles... And how much down.., I live the three point wheel and tires

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 13409768

Maybe like 16-16.5k? It doesn't really represent a better value than the C2 even then, but if you care about AWD or prefer the colour scheme (don't tell KC), then maybe that would tip the balance.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13409847

Agreed. I will keep the guy on the back burner in case red one falls through. Now let's see what carfax says...

POST 22Original post

FYI, the 4 spoke steering wheel indicates earlier build and is generally more desirable. A lot of times they are '98s that weren't brought to the states until '99.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13410291

Excellent. Thanks. I didn't know that. Less to worry about IMS wise I guess.

POST 24Original post

Liking that red C2, and I'm saying this as a C4 owner. Good luck!

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13410532

Thanks. Time for a ppi. Taking to Daniel Jacobs ($350). I guess I have to get ready to pay with this car.

POST 26Original post

Go RED my friend! And please burn those hideous seat covers!

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13410640

They shall be burned, but how will I make sure that leather does not shrivel on me. I will drive this thing a lot and my tuhas will rub the **** out of the driver seat.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13410676

What a novel idea

POST 30Original post

As an owner of a 99 C2, go with the red one. Also, Dan is great and trustworthy. He'll be able to answer all your questions about the car.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13410726

Thanks. I am not sure if he is the one inspecting it though. Also, does the price seem right? I will pay of course. Thanks
