Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

However, if I was doing the job I would want to check each connection pin-by-pin to make 100% sure that the external wiring was exactly the same.
Leading evidence: 'Check each connection pin-by-pin' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Hi guys I've an 03 tip, you can change down using the buttons on the steering wheel whilst in Drive, I think it's limited to one gear and then it only holds the gear for 8 seconds before changing up again.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No, I think the pre-facelift gearbox is a ZF and the facelift is a Merc., which is why there's a difference.
I've got a '98 tip, it's mildly anoying, but the kickdown works very well, and the auto upchange and downchange in M mode is pretty good.
- Steve
98, 99, 00 and 01 cars all use the ZF.
You would have to change the control unit to get the manual change when in 'D' feature. There are 3 different control units - up to 99, 99, and 00-01.

Hi Richard,
Thankyou for your information, first of all do you know where is the control unit on the car? Also is it eacy to change because I'm live in Hong Kong not in UK so I'm wondering the garage in Hong Kong can handle such job or not.
Marshall
The control unit is under the carpet panel behind the rear seats. It is fixed to an aluminium plate along with the engine ECU. A new control unit is in the region of 1250 GBP, so it isn't a cheap upgrade. You would also need to check that the wiring is the same for both types - you wouldn't want to go to all that expense and then find it didn't work!
Hi Richard,
Do you know is it just unplug the existing one and plug in the new one no need to reprogram? If so maybe I will try to get the used will more cheaper.
B.regards,
I had a
quick
look at the wiring diagrams for 98, 99 and 00, and they
appear
to be the same at first glance. However, if I was doing the job I would want to check each connection pin-by-pin to make 100% sure that the external wiring was exactly the same. If you PM me with your email address, I will happily send you the wiring diagrams for you to check yourself.
The plug connectors are the same, by the way.
