Check the female electrical fitting before refitting - it has a tendancy to work loose and sometimes needs to be repositioned so it's firm in its housing.

I am a bit like the Lee not very handy when it come to car diy ,and replaced a side bulb the other day a bit daunting when you hear the loud bang and if you do not possition the key back in the right position ,one begins to panic when trying to put it all back ,if you are in any doubt go to a independent or even your opc and I am sure he will do the job for the price of the bulb and show you how it is done

Suggestion

I tihnk the website says to use a soldering iron to melt and deform the filter prior to removal, this is a good idea as they do take some breaking when cold.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Ive just noticed one of my main headlights as stopped working, ive spoke to porsche and they say I need a special tool to get into the unit to change the bulb Is this correct? I will be having to pay them to change gear for me soon! Thanks Lee

POST 2Original post

They may be referring to the special tool that is in the manufacturer-supplied toolkit. You need this to release the headlamp unit from the wing and it's described in the handbook. Ian W

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im useless at car diy. Ive got the toolkit but I dont even know how to get behind the plastic circular clips. Do you just pull them out, because I keep twisting but they dont seem to be coming out and I dont want to just force them and break them

POST 4Original post

You have to unscrew and pull at the same time. When you get them off you will see the rubber bungs behind the liner. They just pull out. Follow the instructions in the manual carefully, as it will make getting the lights back in much easier. Don't be alarmed by the loud 'crack' when you turn the tool to release and tighten the light unit - "they all do that"!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies, I will give it a go in the morning

POST 6Original post

The loud crack is part of the process. The noise confirms that the headlamp unit has been disengaged. Continuing to turn the handle will lift the unit slightly and push it forward out of the wing (don't worry, it only moves slightly forward - not so far that the unit will fall out). Wheh the unit has been disengaged, turn the handle back through a quarter turn (this will position the locking bar ready to receive the unit when refitting). Check the female electrical fitting before refitting - it has a tendancy to work loose and sometimes needs to be repositioned so it's firm in its housing.

POST 8Original post

Go to http://www.renntech.org and do a search for"amberectomy" and you will find loads of info. Basically, you have to remove the amber bits through the bulb hole.

POST 10Original post

Ive removed the amber filters and fitted diadem type bulbs. It makes the light nor natural and they look well. The only advice I could give is to be very carefull if trying to force out larger pieces of the filter that you dont bend or damage the outer casing where the bulb holder fits. I slightly deformed one of mine and moisture could get in and create condensation in the lamp. A hot air gun easily straightened the housing and all is well again. I tihnk the website says to use a soldering iron to melt and deform the filter prior to removal, this is a good idea as they do take some breaking when cold. Also if you break them inside the housing, you can get small pieces of amber plastic loose in the lamp that can be difficult to remove. I will try to get a picture of the lamp with it removed and post later today. Dave

POST 14Original post

Many thanks for the Pics, They do look nice. I must admit I am not looking forward to remove those lenses. Especially knowing that Porsche import there plastic from the Planet Brittle. I thought your Paint looked fresh.
