Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took out the MAF and cleaned for good measure, but wondered whether something on the induction side needs looking at, was thinking of pulling out the air filter etc, incase suction is impaired for e.g.

1 noise is familiar, passenger side exhaust rattle, louder when cold and reduces when warm, indications for internal exhaust baffle etc, but seen some suggestions for adjusting the rod on the dump valve etc so I'll try this.
Leading evidence: 'Clean good measure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust rod' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Mine does, I have disconnected but it makes no difference to the noise I'm hearing, just wondered if it should run all the time.

rev's/idle changes due to cooling fan load, and you can hear the fan running, but I have this noise and idle change constantly.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi read through a few noise topics for any similarities to mine, but couldn't match.
I've a 2001 996 turbo, 43kmls, FPSH, great condition, and no major concerns, 2 noises developed.
1 noise is familiar, passenger side exhaust rattle, louder when cold and reduces when warm, indications for internal exhaust baffle etc, but seen some suggestions for adjusting the rod on the dump valve etc so I'll try this.
The 2nd noise has just developed. To date the engine has been really smooth and no issues, however for no apparent reason, if I recall sitting in traffic, the idle became slightly rough and a noise surface.
To distinguish the change in idle performance, for e.g. the passenger seat was solid before, but now shakes gently, and for sure generally in the cabin it's not a smooth at idle as it was.
The noise, which is just increased back ground noise(i.e. fan running) doesn't change at all if you rev, it just stays constant.
A perfect way to describe, would be to use the example of a radiator fan coming on, i.e. rev's/idle changes due to cooling fan load, and you can hear the fan running, but I have this noise and idle change constantly.
I didn't take note before, but should the fan in the boot lid run constantly ? Mine does, I have disconnected but it makes no difference to the noise I'm hearing, just wondered if it should run all the time.
It's strange trying to source the noise, with the engine lid up, nothing obvious is apparent, or able to be pin pointed you don't hear it any louder for e.g.
I'll do some more snooping around shortly, but wondered if anyone else experienced this etc. I took out the MAF and cleaned for good measure, but wondered whether something on the induction side needs looking at, was thinking of pulling out the air filter etc, incase suction is impaired for e.g. but seeing as the noise doesn't increase with engine rev's this may be a wasteof time.
The runs fine and no major change, just at idle the noise described above.
Anycase look forward to any thoughts on this and looking forward to becoming a regular contibutor.
1st noise should be simple to fix, although can happy as the parts start to warm up
Fan came come on regularly depending on the operating temp of the car at the time
Worth keeping an eye or ear on the 2nd noise
