Suggestion

The DME data will have been read out when the warranty was first issued, but if you still have the 'old-style' warranty then I doubt it has been checked since, or on renewal.

they said the car has previously been driven hard and been knocked down from high to low gears..i have asked for proof of this and told them to put it in writing to me that they are blaming driver error for it breaking...they came back to me yesterday and said if i pay the £7500 for the repair they will send the parts to germany to be checked and if they are faulty they will re emburse me..but i'm still no better off.

A new warranty was taken out with porsche in January so naturally I thought the car would be repaired under warranty but to my amazement I was told by porsche that it had broken due to the way it was driven.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi..can anyone advise me what to do? About four weeks ago my Porsche broke down, it was recovered to a local porsche dealership. After the car was checked it was found that the chain had broke in the engine. A new warranty was taken out with porsche in January so naturally I thought the car would be repaired under warranty but to my amazement I was told by porsche that it had broken due to the way it was driven. When i questioned them I was told that it had gone to rev range 1 and rev range 2 (whatever that means). My argument is with them is that I bought a porcshe to drive like a porsche but they are still arguing it is a driven error. It's a 52 plate with full history and 51,000 miles. A report was sent to Germany stating that the chain had snapped and they are refusing to pay £7,500 to rebuild the engine. I've only had the car for 7weeks and being my first porsche after many M3's and M5's I am seriously dissapointed with the service i have had with porsche. Can anybody advise mw what to do as i can not afford to pay for the repair after saving up for 3 years to buy the car. Can anyone advise me on what to do or if anybody has had any similar experince. Kind Regards Sarb

POST 2Original post

There's an explanation of rev ranges 1 & 2 here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=44031&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=4 Get the figures from them, (including the time of occurrence and current hours recorded) and it should give you an idea if they have an argument or not.

POST 3Original post

sarb, did you buy it privately or from opc. It only matters as you could argue they should have known about abuse from their 111 point inspection if it was bought from opc. As you have a warranty you must have gone through a check and they would have data before and after your use. I would like to argue they sold you an abused car, unless of course the over revs were since you bought :?: I really feel for you as you payed for a Porsche, got the warranty probably advised by Porsche and you have been let down. As Richard H has said you need to collect more data to understand how it falls outside the warranty. One further question, is it under finance? If so, a lot of responsibility for the cars condition, weird I know, but true. Jamie, our financier knows much more about this than me. Why don't you pm him for a better explanation (if it is financed). Pete

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i bought the car private..i have contacted the chap i bought it off and he has been to his local dealer where he had any repairs done and he is going to send me copies of any work done on the car. he renewed the warranty in jan so would they not have picked up that the car was supposidly abused and not give a warranty?? they said the car has previously been driven hard and been knocked down from high to low gears..i have asked for proof of this and told them to put it in writing to me that they are blaming driver error for it breaking...they came back to me yesterday and said if i pay the £7500 for the repair they will send the parts to germany to be checked and if they are faulty they will re emburse me..but i'm still no better off. it seems like since i told them i am seeking legal advice and that i am getting an independent engineer involved they might try to compramise..but it's sad that i am having to do this..thanks for the reply

POST 5Original post

Sorry to hear the news- Q's to ask OPC - Full R1/R2 report which will show occurrence/length ect. Also - -Where did you pick the car from? (If from OPC, then you can also push to determine if R1/R2 instance occurred previously? - If this was picked up by the independent dealer in which case you have additional protection statuary protection here - You will also need to follow-up with them... - When did you get warranty? - Again, Unless the R1/R2 was not noted here, then as mentioned by others you may have some strength. I think some other members have also been in the same position - Maybe good to get in touch to find the right contacts to send a letter to... - Was there any "admission of guilt" - i.e admitting it was driven recklessly or accepting it was driver error ect?

POST 6Original post

The problem of abuse has been well discussed on this site (do a search) and it really comes down to the fact you have bought a second hand car. Were you to know of the previous high revs you wouldn't have bought it which is where a good inspection would have helped. The only recourse you have (other than the offer you have been given) is the warranty inspection. Not sure if they would have told you of the over revs and witheld the warranty based on these but I would ask the question. Hope you get a satisfactory resolution. We hate it when innocent people get stuffed by either a manufacturing fault which Porsche know about but won't admit (not the case here) or people don't take care of their Porsche and it pass on the failure to the next owner. Pete

POST 7Original post

The DME data will have been read out when the warranty was first issued, but if you still have the 'old-style' warranty then I doubt it has been checked since, or on renewal. Therefore, it could have been abuse by the previous owner, but that won't help your case. I think you need to get the figures and work it out.
