I did that when I found what I thought was a good 996 Turbo, but it turned out to be a pig, a financial timebomb about to explode.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i am looking for my second ever 911. It has been 10 years sine the last one was sadly allowed to leave after 3 great years of driving in Germany. Now I am looking at a 996 probably 2002-2003. Prefer a cab as I always wanted one! So why not now since it is being termed a mid life crisis anyways! What is the opinion of all here (who probably have fogotten more then I will ever know on porkies.) C2 or C4? Looking 25k ish and will i get a decent example for that? Also what about warranty? Any advice? cheers all.[/list]

POST 2Original post

C2 or C4? Hi there, I had the same question a few months ago when changing my 21 year old 3.2 Carrera for something more modern. Looking around, irrespective of which model you decide to go for, make sure it has a full history, preferably supported by receipts. Condition is everything. It is very easy to go all goo-ey when looking, so take a fellow petrolhead along to help you look. If you have decided on the one you want, get a Porsche garage (independent or main) to do a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). I did that when I found what I thought was a good 996 Turbo, but it turned out to be a pig, a financial timebomb about to explode. It was worth the £110 for the report! I bought a C4S cabrio tiptronic, favouring the security of the 4 wheel drive in poor weather, which we have even now! The C2 feels slightly different, a bit more precise in the info you get from steering it about?? Anyway, which ever you decide in the price bracket, get a good one. I also read that the C4 is a fraction quicker than my C4S due to the latter having a wider body and tyres and slightly more drag. But the C4S is only quicker round the twisties due to the wider track. But then I'm not mad enough to find that out. Good luck! Cheungy

POST 3Original post

With 25 k to spend you are almost in turbo price range IMHO keep saving.

POST 4Original post

If turbo cabs were at down as low as 25k, it would be the easiest decision in the world I went through exactly the same dilemma when I was looking. I drove both and although preferred the feedback and drive of the C2, although preferred the confidence the C4 gave me. Having small children, the boot size difference swung me to a C2 in the end although I would recommend you search for both and buy whichever stands out in terms of spec / condition / colour combination for you.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
