Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I’m trying to follow the steps in this article: Engine Cover & Air Filter Removal - My Articles I tried to pry up the cover, like shown in this picture, But I feel strong resistance at the far left edge of the picture, about where his elbow would be, on both sides. It really feels like there is another attachment point right there. I pried from the front pretty hard, but it kept sticking at those two points. Rather than break something, I gave up. I was prying hard enough that I was worried the cover would bend at that sticking point. Do I just need to pull harder? Should I put the prying tool at that spot to assist? Or is there something else going on? I’ve searched other threads about this subject, and there is no mention of another attachment point.

POST 2Original post

Pry up in the center and once you can get your fingers under it pull straight up. You will receive some resistance since this is the first time to remove it but after that it gets easier. The resistance is caused by some tabs that protrude out from the cover into the plastic panels, not to worry as nothing should break.

POST 3Original post

I found it very helpful to have two prying tools, so you can hold position with one, and try to pry up a bit more with the other, etc. Also, redwarrior is correct.

POST 4Original post

Egads look at that old boring dull black and grey interior, thank goodness someone added some color to it!!! Oh and yeah there are tabs on the carpet that slide into slots in the plastic on either side but you should be able to work them out without breaking anything.

POST 5Original post

Thanks, I guess the consensus is to pull harder! I’ll try pulling more from the center, and see if I can work those carpet tabs out.

POST 6Original post

...and there's nothing wrong with black and gray.

POST 7Original post

Took my engine cover off this morning for the first time. The tabs on each side actually bend upward. Once you pry up the middle, depress the sides near the mid-point while pulling up on the middle. When you clear these, the two tabs on the rear will be visible. Just gently slide forward and the carpet will come loose. I did it a second time and it was much easier.

POST 8Original post

the carpet cover is pretty flexible, would be surprised if you could manage to break it
