Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
I'll qualify that by saying it was the "Mk 1" type modification, and mine was a 3.4.
Leading evidence: '"mk 1" type modification, and mine was a 3.4' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '"mk 1" type modification, and mine was a 3.4' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install oettles and was the best mod i made' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I fitted the Oettles muffers about 6 months ago. They are fantastic value for money as sound about the same during nornal driving and in my opinion and the OPC fitter sound better than the PSE.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering buying muffler bypasses for my 996 C4, but I still can't get a feel of what they sound like, despite watching numerous vids, or how loud they actually are.
If anybody has muffler bypasses, please tell me how they are!
Thanks!
Sorry, you'll need to speak up. I used to muffler bypass pipes you see and now i can't really hear that well
Get a set of the oettle back boxes or do a search on this site and do the mod yourself, promise thats the noise your looking for, as for the bypass pipes, well the novelty does wear off and i personally just found them way too loud
just my opinion mind

If you mean the Oettle-style bypass pipes, I had them put on my C2, and I think they are great. I'll qualify that by saying it was the "Mk 1" type modification, and mine was a 3.4. I bought a pair of new silencers on eBay for £90, and with the bits and pieces, and a new set of clamps, it ended up costing about £150. Best money I ever spent on the car. I wasn't going to spend £1500+ on a PSE.
Before I did it I was worried that it might be boomy at motorway cruisiing speeds, or would wake the neighbours on an early start, or late night return. I needn't have worried on either count. They are only marginally louder than standard until you hit about 3500rpm, when they produce a very satisfying roar.
The downside is that if you want to do track days you might have problems. They have been measured at 105dB at the usual distance and engine speed, which is too loud for most circuits.
HTH.
Absolutely no problems with the MOT. No reason to be.
You didn't mean the Fabspeed silencer bypasses, did you? If so, I'll change my vote to a definite NO!
Hi,
I have the Fabspeed silencer bypass things on my Mk1 GT3. They are extremely loud.
It got through the MOT fine. Am considering a switcheable sports exhaust, because whilst i love the noise of these things, they are really loud and I can only do "noisy" track days, which are few and far between.
So switcheable would be noisy when I wanted and quiet enough for track days,/early morning starts.
Cheers
Justin
Not on my list
Does nothing for the car
A flat six sounds just about right when muffled and tractor like when bypassed
Horribe horrible sound!
Grow up you noisey lot!

When one is pressing on, say approaching 80,one want's to stay as stealth as possible
If it's the same sound at low revs why bother but it isn't to my ears
In reality your ottle and others makers are a cast iron mot fail your pass is false declaration.
You can't track your car at most places
The sound is only pleasent in the ear of the beholder
Whilst I appreciate your opinion, I think you are in a minority of one on this subject. To me, and most others, sports cars are all about the visceral feelings they arouse, and the aural qualities are an important part of that.
Each to his own, I say.
And I can't understand what you mean about the Oettle-type modification being a sure MOT failure. There is no effect on emissions.
