Hi!
I deeply digged at forum before input my question, I hope someone can help me; I wonder if I can use the
Bose
stock speakers with a
Pioneer head unit
, with no MOST or HUR, just by-passing the factory amplifier?
I would like have these days features like Bluetooth, Navi,
Car play
, Etc. but with a simple installation, only the radio dash kit +
Pioneer
receiver + stock speakers
Thanks in advance!
No can do. You have to have the MOST for the
Bose amplifier
to work with the stock speakers which costs more than the new
Pioneer
! Just went through this experience recently. Otherwise, you are into a new amplifier and rewiring all of the speakers. I will say, it was more expensive than I hoped but the end result is very good. I had the
Pioneer
AVH-2330 NEX installed with a backup camera and used the
Bose amp
, speakers and Sub-woofer. Much improved sound and having the
Apple CarPlay
is a huge improvement in functionality especially the
GPS
.
I think that OP ws saying that he'd like to just retain the
Bose speakers
and wire in a new headunit and aftermarket amp. Or, no amp, if the headunit could drive existing speakers.
The only way I have heard it is that you can get a new headunit and 6-channel amplifier and use that to drive the
Bose speakers
. They have a lower impedance than aftermarket speakers, so you may need resistors to compensate. That's beyond my knowledge.
I also have this
CDR24
setup, and have been wondering how to best upgrade without huge cost.
I am very jealous if you are able to live in Durango, Mexico and drive the Devil's Backbone to Mazatlan in a Cayman. What a fantastic road.
And if you are in Durango, Colorado, USA you have it almost as good with 550 between Ouray and Silverton. Both amazing drives.
Hi! Yes you got the sense of my question.
May be I will try with a new amp instead a HUR or MOST
I am @Durango, Mexico, and yes, the old road to Mazatlan is heaven for an enthuisastic driver, imagine for a manual
Cayman S
driver!
Cheers!
Short answer - Yes - you can change the head unit out with an aftermarket, bypass the entire
Bose amp
system in the car, and get sound out of the stock speakers. Look on Ebay for the amp bypass wiring harness (should be about $45) - It's a connector that plugs directly into the leads connected to the output of the amp. You'll want to get the head unit powered up in the dash, and run the speaker leads into the frunk where the amp is. BUT - the stock speakers have some odd impedance's, and doing it this way you'll lose use of several of the speakers. It'll work, but not as well as it could, and the load on the head unit could shorten its life. I fought this one in every direction I could think of - I ended up biting the bullet (and deciding to eat PB&J's for a while) and went with the NAV kit ($600). I was in and out in under 2 hours, all my soldering and heat shrinking was on my workbench, I barely got my finger tips dirty, and all the speakers work...
or you can order a Longate MOST-HUR adapter for $130 and retain the existing
BOSE amp
. I just did this with a JVC KW-V830BT and it all works great.
I looked at the Longate, and one similar made in England - Connect 2 I believe. I ended up with the NAV (bought from the manufacturer in FL) because of a few features - 4 channel input over 2 for example, as well as the customer service experience.
Some link with you NAV provider?
I bought mine directly from NAV - It's their kit 210.

. You'll also need to run switched power directly from the fuse box (I believe fuse B-9 worked - verify with a test light or multimeter) for both the head unit and the adapter - A mini bus fuse tap makes this simple -

. Last - if you're putting in a DVD player or navigation unit you can put in a bypass for the parking brake -

. Hope this helps.
I use a connects 2. The shop is not far from me. Works well. I retained the amp and the original speakers. As the speakers ae fibre optic connections I cant see how you connect these directly to your head unit without an adaptor.
