I've got a
bose system
on a
987.1
(2006
boxster S
) and I'm wanting to update the terrible head unit to something that has all the bells and whistles. Preferably on the cheap - so my question is that I'm looking to buy a chinese android head unit that might do what I want

and the audio chip
http://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/tda7850.pdf
Appears to output 4 x 55 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, 4 x 80 watts max @ 2 ohms
So does that mean I can skip the MOST HUR and connect it directly? I'm very new to audio electronics, but I've got a software engineering background so I'm not entirely lost on the subject.
Yes looks like you still need it, but don't both with MOST HUR there is the Longate MOST.

I use it on my 2007 CS with BOSE. Check out spiral audio's website for a complete kit with Longate MOST and the trim kit and wiring harness all in one package.
I know one of the Chinese head units come with their own MOST HUR harness. Not sure of this one.
I took a different tack and replaced the head unit and the
Bose Amp
and got rid of the MOST system. More expensive than the Chinese stuff but compared to getting a MOST harness about the same price.
Under the heading of, you learn something every day: I'm an electronics engineer and I had to look up "MOST Bus" to figure out what you guys were talking about. In my own defense I've only worked in Aerospace and been in the automotive business.
Anyway, @tuelz where did you get that the audio amp puts out 55 watts RMS. Looking at the spec sheet it does say watts but I did not find any reference to RMS watts. There is a big difference between the two. Also I noted that when it comes to distortion that amp goes to pot above about 20 watts. All that may not make much of a difference in such a small car. Good luck with your mod.
Thanks, so I'm not confident at all in what I'm saying - so feel free to correct everything, please! I'm hoping to learn while I'm doing this project.
I got that copy/paste from an audio board
https://www.parts-express.com/yuan-jing-tda7850-4-x-50w-audio-amplifier-board--320-6516
for the same chip. Not sure if the chip shares the same characteristics as the board, but I figured it might.
anyways, after some more research I've seen nothing that builds confidence that I could do something like that so now my current build looks like this (and I'm somewhat more confident this should work)

I think all these things should work fine - now I'm just looking for a decent guide for wiring up an aftermarket amp to an aftermarket head unit. Any tips/links y'all know of?
I'm also still curious if anyone knows if the head unit I linked could drive the 2ohm speakers, but I'm less interested in testing it out for myself on my first car audio upgrade
The 7850L amp chip built into your planned head unit appears to be rated for 2 ohm speakers so it looks like your good. Please photo your install progress and post when done. Thanks!
If you are using a MOST adapter the impedance setting in the head unit doesn't matter. You're pulling the signal pre-amp (RCA cables)... The MOST adapter converts that Pre-amp signal to an optical one and feeds that into the
Bose amp
- this is the only piece that cares what the impedance is...
Thanks for the info! I'll definitely update when I get everything installed/working since my entire upgrade shouldn't cost more than $550 everything included
does anyone know where I can find max watt specs for the speakers? I have the
bose speakers
(although no footwell bass) and I'm trying to buy an aftermarket amp to match up pretty cleanly to the speakers, but I can't find the specs anywhere.
If you have it on hand, I'd also like to know where I can find specs for the factory AMP - I'm probably lookin in all the wrong places, but the forum search and my google-fu haven't turned up anything yet
