Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Apparently they changed the transponder to a rolling-code type at some point, and this only works for older models.
Leading evidence: 'Replace transponder' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit of a minefield' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace blade' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
I think for the beginner, this "key" issue is a bit of a minefield.

Suggestion
you may be able to get one cut from photo but it will be no use than an ornament as you will need opc to get a remote and code it to the vehicle
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Only got a single key for my C4S and looking to get a spare, any tips on who to use or is it just a case of OPC only?
I remember seeing a post on here for someone who cut keys from a photo but can't seem to find the detail anymore???
Cheers
D
You can buy a 'spare' (non-remote - sometimes called a valet key) from Porsche for about £60. As P-euro says, the immobiliser transponder pill will have to be programmed to the car for it to work.
I have heard that some key-cutters can read the code from the transponder and program another to the same code. Someone mentioned Timpsons, IIRC.
Edit: Found it:

Apparantly Porsche no longer release codes to Indys, so coding at OPC only. Little tip if buying a key head and blank from any where else make sure the security tag is attached, its required for coding, useless without.
Budget £200 - £250 ish supply & coded per key, key blank is cut to the VIN number ordered from Germany takes a few days, bit pricey but just take the hit, I also had the auto lock activated at 5mph whilst it was in.

They will release the codes to indies. Mine got me my codes to re-program the DME not so long ago. I just had to fax them a letter of authorisation, and a copy of the V5C.
I had the same problem, only one key, nerve wracking cos if you loose it your bug gered!
There is a locksmiths in Derbyshire that advertises in Porsche Post, who copy from photograph.
I used it, not quite beleiving it would work, and it works PERFECTLY!
Thats just the key element, for the beeper bit you need a new head and coding, Indys can still get the code with your owners cert etc
Edward - I thought the key also had some kind of electronic signature so when inserted into the ignition barrel, the vehicle's immobiliser recognised the key (electronically) and allowed the driver to start the engine.
This is in addition to the wireless component that locks/unlocks remotely etc.
So you're getting the key cut by photograph, then taking it to be programmed by OPC or Indy.
Nick -
Your correct, got the key blade cut by WG Pollard Ltd
[email removed]
the cost was £ 35.00 plus V.A.T @ 15%, plus postage £ 6.00 plus V.A.T @ 15%, INCLUDING THE BLADE.
Just remembered - the reason I did this, and didnt order the blade and cutting from my OPC was because my locks had been chaged and Porsche only had the original now defunct key pattern on its files... So I had to cut from my only key..
Also, a blade from OPC costs about £50 from memory, you can buy them on Ebay for £2 each! There is nothing unique about the blade, its made by the standard key blade manufacturer HAA. I have bought several blanks all fine. Search for a Porsche blade worldwide, £2 from China. Made by HAA
VERY impressed with WG Pollard I have to say, Porsche use them!
Kind Regards
Edward
That's correct. The key head has a transponder "pill" for the immobiliser, which is matched by the Porsche Tester to the alarm system. The key head remote is also matched in a similar way. A key blade by itself will open the doors and switch off the alarm, but it won't start the car.
Richard H - thanks for clarifying that.
Edward - in your particular case, with having the car locks changed and the "one and only" other key, Messrs. W G Pollard did sterling service for you. :thumb:
I think for the beginner, this "key" issue is a bit of a minefield. People need to be aware, without the necessary code tag, it's a waste of time paying silly money for a second hand key thinking it can be simply reprogrammed to your car. Albeit a simple task just to change the blade...
