As the title suggests, I am trying to install a Kensun HID w/relay kit in my 2007 Cayman S. The problem is trying to run the wires! They just don't seem long enough. At first I wanted to put the ballast inside the headlight housing, but that dramatically limited wire length. So I took the ballast out and planned to mount it in the frunk somewhere. But when I tried to reinstall the headlight assembly into the car the wires weren't long enough. As the headlight slid back into the opening the wires tightened.
A contributing problem is there is just that one inch hole between the frunk and the headlight area to run the wires. The ballast and capacitor units/boxes have to go either on the frunk side or headlight area side, which makes finding room for all this stuff difficult.
I was hoping to get this done while my wife is out of town... if ya know where I'm comin' from.
What am I missing? Has anyone had success doing this? If so, PLEASE HELP!
Attached is the wiring diagram I was given.
Okay, I think I was able to work out the wiring problem. But now a new problem arose. After getting everything wired I started the car, turned on the headlights, and they looked great. BUT there was a loud buzzing sound coming from one headlight. The light was sold and bright, no flickering or dimming. To get the wiring to work, I had to place the ballast inside the headlight housing, so I can't confirm if the buzz was coming from the ballast. But I can't imagine what else it could be. Do I have a bad ballast or could it be something else?
When I had troubles with HIDs purchased from TRS (still under warranty) they had me swap components from side-to-side to see which one caused the problem to move. Mine was a different issue than yours, but I suspect the process will be the same. So I'd suggest swapping the ballasts. I know, a real PITA! If that doesn't do it, try igniters. I didn't use a relay, but that is also a possibility.
Kensun's customer service is fantastic! I emailed them and got an immediate response... on a SUNDAY! After troubleshooting a bunch of possible fixes, they felt the best way to fix this was to send me a new relay and set of capacitor units... FREE of CHARGE! I also ordered some extension wires. Once everything is installed I'll post the results. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
