I used a 32 gig card which will hold about 300 cd's.

You will need to change the Porsche connector to the supplied dual connector.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The $175 unit is Gen 2, which (they claim) has that rear channel problem resolved, and will allow factory fading to control the rears.
I came across a MOST adapter on Ebay that is made in Russia. It works with all
Porsche
/
BMW
/ Mercedes MOST systems. Its a total bargin at $175 compared to the $600+ for a MOST HUR  When wireless
Apple Car Play
comes out this year I want to swap one into my
2007 Cayman S
.
Let me know if you've tried it:

Also interested in this - I want to a new head unit but MOST HUR's prices are extortion. However, I want to hear some experiences as most electronics I've bought direct from Asia have been mediocre.
I've done some more research. It seems like this company makes a popular
Cayenne
head unit with the MOST technology. See the 23 page thread here:
Dynavin head unit - ******** Discussion Forums
There now seems to be a Boxster head unit in the same style. For example here:
J&T Distributing - Dynavin N6-PS Stereo Navigation System for 2002-2011 Porsche Cayenne
I think this head unit is a combo of a Dynavin head unit (
Dynavin N6 Platform
) and the same MOST adapter.
That may be the best and most OEM looking solution. I was looking at paying $200 for a mounting kit, $200 for the MOST adapter, $800 for the head unit, $200 for the install and getting something that looks aftermarket. This looks like I can do the install myself and get something that looks nice.
I was looking at them last week. It looks like there is Gen 1 unit that can be had for $158. This should do the MOST interfacing, but leaves the old problem of the rear speakers out of the loop, necessitating unique hard lines for the rears.
The $175 unit is Gen 2, which (they claim) has that rear channel problem resolved, and will allow factory fading to control the rears.
Seems like a good idea to get the Gen 2 for $175. The stereo upgrade is a wishlist item. I may live with my car for a year before getting into that. You're still going to be out at least $650 to do a basic unit yourself. $800 will be more like it. Last time I did a stereo, CD changer, AUX interface all for under $300. So, these prices seem steep.
Had I not just spent a ton on new H&
R springs
, carbon center console (project), SSK &
Numeric cables
,
Alcantara
GT3
knob and trim set, steering wheel recover, new
tires
, graphics, etc, I'd be all over this.
I found this really cool drop in replacement:
Auto Radio DVD GPS Navigation Stereo for Porsche CAYMAN 911 997 BOXTER 2005-2008 | eBay
The only things I don't like, is amber lights and if you have BOSE you have to tell them, wonder if they include an adapter or something. But Bluetooth, Nav, and drop in replacement
I just wrote them to see if they have a different unit for
Bose
fiber optic systems. If the add-on price isn't outrageous then this looks like a nice option. I like the design. I looks very factory.
Has anyone tried this adaptor. It is 330 USD which is much cheaper than the Most HUR.
FIBER OPTIC Radio Stereo Replacement Harness Interface SCOSCHE PE02SR.
Car stereo warehouse in Anaheim CA is offering the
pioneer
AVH-4200 with this adaptor and a backup camera installed for 1350 USD. Does anyone have any experience with this shop?
Any luck guys? My CDR-24 stopped working 2 years ago and the car has been without music ever since! What I was thinking of doing was buying the HUR harness then try to wire it up to an
Ipad
mini and just get rid of the stereo all together.
I guess this is another option?

I ordered the
Dynavin
N6-PS MOST on Thursday. I wrote their support team and asked if I could download the installation instructions so I could familiarize myself with the procedure. I was told they don't have an installation manual for the the
Porsche
's. Here's a quote from the email I received. "Sorry, we don't have one specifically for that car but the install is similar regardless of the car....just the dash specific parts vary. If you can get to the point where the stock stereo is out the rest is fairly standard. From an electrical standpoint the
Porsche
units are most similar to the
BMW
E90 units.....so review the forum thread on E90post and it should give you a pretty good idea"
So it is not starting out as well as I had hoped.
Ordered the Longate MOST RCA since its on sale. Will let you all know how it goes, can't really use it until Alpine ships their wireless
Carplay
receiver though

I installed my new
Dynavin
N6-PS a couple of days ago. I used K-Man S's article on removing my old head unit. Thanks for the great article Ken.

The installation went OK with a few minor issues. I didn't take any pictures, sorry, but I will cover the pitfalls so if you deiced to go this route I can save you some irritation.
There are no installation instructions for the Porsche's. There is for other manufacturers on J&T Distributing's website. I was told it is similar to the installation for the BMW E90 They also recommend using the forums at ********.com and ********.org. I didn't find the information to be of much help.
My car is a 2005 Porsche Boxster S with the CDR24 and BOSE amp.
The installation is plug and play, but there are a few things to be aware of and it will save you some time. The 1st thing I encountered is with the Fakra antenna connection. The stock Porsche single connector won't fit on the dual Fakra connector on the back of the head unit. You will need to change the Porsche connector to the supplied dual connector. The supplied instructions are clear and concise. It only took a couple minutes to do. The rest of the connectors only plug in to one connector. I do not have steering wheel controls, and I was finding it difficult to get the new wiring bundle far enough back to get the head unit to sit flush with the console so I did not use the Canbus adapter. This caused weird issues. The unit would come on with out the key being in the ignition and the big one was the unit would turn off after 5 min. I spoke to tech support (emailed) and they told me the Canbus does more than the steering wheel controls and I had to use it. Fitting the head unit back so the locks will engage was difficult, but they did lock in. As I went through the configuration I found that the fader does not work, if I set it to all rear speakers there is no sound. With the fader centered there is sound from all speakers. I used to see the song or radio station displayed on the bottom of the tach, now it just shows dashed lines. I contacted tech support and was told the fader does not work with the fiber amp (BOSE) and there is no integration with the instrument cluster. So this is normal. I spoke to Jeff Bechtel from J&T and he was very helpful and responded quickly to my emails.
I am still figuring out all that this new head unit will do, but I am very pleased with it the sound is great and I now can listen to my MP3's again from a USB memory stick or an MMC card. The Nav works great and it warns me every time I exceed the speed limit. Which is a lot.
My final thoughts are that the unit is well worth it. I can live with the few limitations that I have mentioned and the color is not that far off. I payed 849.00 for it and did find the unit on eBay for 797.00 with an 18 month warranty instead of the 12 months that came with mine.
I hope this is helpful.
One more thing, you can customize the startup screen.
Thanks for the write up - very helpful.
I also have an
06 Cayman S
w/
Bose
& CD changer - other than the unit itself, what else do I need for installation?
Since I didn't have the changer I can't say. But there are a lot of unused connectors. You can contact customer service at J&T Distributing, They were very helpful when I was deciding. If you do loose the changer, it has an MMC slot. I used a 32 gig card which will hold about 300 cd's. So would you really miss it? I didn't have room in my
Boxster
to carry all my CD's. I ripped them all to MP3's and put them on a memory card the size of my fingernail.
