Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im interested in finding out about maintenace costs for a 996, i thought a good way would be for people who already drive them to tell me what they had spent in the last year to keep the 996 on the road.
If i do decide to get one it will only cover about 8k per year and id say half of that will be sat on motorway. (30mpg possible at 70mph??)
So if you would be so kind to state
1) 996 model inc age
2) mileage done in the 12 months
3) cost in repairs inc what has needed doing.
thanks in advance for info
PS will prob do a clutch per year as "wife" will be driving it and only passed 8 months ago
1.) 996 GT2 (2002)
2.) 10,000 miles (in 10.5 months since I bought it)
3.) Costs:
£700 minor service
£1300 on tyres (replaced whole set then an extra rear as one picked up a nail two weeks after fitting
)
£4000 ish for items replaced under warranty (air-con condensors, strut, pulley + investigating leaks etc)
So if I didn't have the warranty it would be £6000 not including
insurance
and fuel - dread to think how much fuel it's had in 10k miles. As it stands it's cost £2000, not bad for a car that will out accelerate a lot of ferraris and lambos.
Around £3500 in the last 12 months.
Rads.
Coolant flush.
Service (OPC).
Tyres.
Bumper paint (stone chips).
Pads.
And a few other things I can't remember !
But I have only done 2800 miles - :wack:

Costs
996 C2 Tip 1998
About 12k miles pa.
Spent about 2.5k. Rear tyres, 2 services, wheel alignment, drop links (4) and control arms (2) and a switch for the gearbox.
Previous year was biggy, gearbox rebuild, services etc about 6k.
Current mileage approx 119k
I think the moral is, if you can't budget 2 or 3 grand a year for maintenance stay clear !!
PS. 70mph on the motorway is incredibly hard to do, not far over tickover !
1) Targa Tip 03, 50k miles
2) 7-8k, school runs + motorway commute. get about 22mpg
3) an absolutely bloody fortune!
warranty - £1500
geo - £250 (or something like that)
rear tyres - £350
new alloy wheels - £800
new rear tyres - £500
minor service - £300
front disc + pads - £550
front trailing control arms - £500
steering lock mechanism - £250
- what's that, about 6k?
On top of this I need to do the following:
a. Replace rear plastic PU (about £800)
b. Fix squeaky seat (probably another £200 in labour)
c. Fix electric seat mechanism (probably under warranty)
d. rear disc + pads - £500
996tt
12 months
Major service £800
Discs and Pads £1600
Rads x 2 - Warranty
Rear seal - circa 2k - under warranty (and £200 off the service cos engine out!!)
Warranty - £1300
Theme = get a warranty
996 c2 1992
Service cost £700 inc a few minor bits
1 x rear tyre £250 kwik fit
Done 12,000 miles
That's it
So, £950
However, Strasse in Leeds has told me I will shortly need new calipers and pads at a likely cost of £800 or thereabouts - I'm just waiting for the pad wear light to come on and then I'll take it in and do that work.
I also bought a warranty at a cost of £800 from warrantywise.
All those things then in 18 months of ownership amount to £2500 ish. I think in that time depreciation has probably "cost" me around £10k though but I'll worry about that when I change it
