Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have any experience of mods to allow for one touch operation of the cabriolet roof.
Some articles have suggested it is a plug in relay replacement for the Cab relay. One touch on the button will then operate the open or close cycle. So it can be operated at slow speed at a traffic light for instance without the stop. Parking brake, Park on the Tip, Hold button for what seems like an eternity.
I seem to remember the 997 C4S PDK Cab had this capability.
Thoughts?

When would it know to stop though? Mine lowers the windows, then the roof, then if you keep it pressed, raises the windows again, which I don't want most of the time, so stop as soon as it finishes lowering the roof.
Mine has one of these fitted.

Seems to do what you ask for with some element of programmability available.
Previous owner fitted it so I don't know for sure but I believe it literally connects to the oem harness and to the hard top control unit so no cutting/wiring required.
I think you can download the fitting instruction from the website.

This is the one that seems to simply replace one of the the relays behind the back seats. Or at least that is where it is on my '02 C2 Cab.
@omigod I found the manuals for the unit you have. Detailed pictoral walk through of fitting. Seems perfect and very simple to install taking 10 mins max. I like the programming option to have all windows down after opening the roof or front windows up or all windows up. Configurable operating speed defaulting to stationary only. Simply sits in between the loom connector and the cab module. Can be removed with no impact. Awesome!

I believe the relay "replacement" is to enable the hood to be operated on the move and simply disconnects the speed control input that normally prevents the hood being opened on the move. It does not provide one-touch operation.
The SmartTop (

) controller is different.
The fundamental benefit of the SmartTop is allowing one-touch operation of the hood; a 1/2s click on the interior switch or fob opens or closes the roof. On 996 I believe it also allows hood to be opened/closed on the move. Various other features allow programming of windows on opening hood etc.
It's really easy to fit and plugs into the existing hood control unit. Basically put the hood in service position; pop off tension cables to lift rear screen; remove carpet trim panel and then plug it in; I stuck mine in place with double sided foam tape. Takes 30 minutes. Instructions are here:

I the ability to move the roof on the move a non standard feature? I have a 996 C4S when I bought it no mention of any smart roof so assumed it's all stock but I can raise and lower the roof so long as I'm under 30mph. If I am over 30 it will not let me move it only under so assume somthing more complicated that simply cutting the speed sensor is going on like I did in my old Boxster. I have no one touch operation however.
Strange? My 2004 C2 cab will operate on the move and the key fob can be used to open or close from outside.
As far as I know this is standard on these.
2003 onwards as below.
I would add that if a CTL cable breaks then with a one touch operation it might do more damage than someone holding the button and realising the CTL is only raising one side .. i tend to look in the interior mirror when operating these .
My personal thoughts are " it might smash it to bits if in auto mode " .
its a rare issue .. but it can happen .
There was a rear-ended C4S cab outside Precision, I had a look at the hood whilst waiting for my taxi the other day - I have to say I'm envious of the size of the rear window on these. Is it possible to fit the entire roof mechanism from a 996.2 to a 996.1, as I assume that's what is required in order to fit the larger glass window?
