Heya folks, I need an in dash and relatively accessible 12 volt constant to vampire ( good ground as well ); any recommendations? I do not want to run to the fuse box and it seems the cigarette lighters, though not switched, are transformed 5 volt dc. Any advice greatly appreciated! SLR-

This was presented by Porsche sales, in lieu of the service department being open. Inspired by your response, I ran out to the car and pulled the kick plate to check the interface, and indeed, there is 12 vdc at the plug and I find no transformer circuit in the plug assembly as was proposed. This being the case, I can simply splice, solder and shrink wrap inline to the 12 v accessory interface in the passenger foot well. If anyone has a better proposition for poaching 12 v constant and getting a good ground in the center dash region, I would love to hear them - before I dedicate to solder... THNX! SLR-

I think running from the fuse box would be alot easier and quicker. You can get most of the carpeting up around the fuse box with I think 1 screw so running and hiding a line is easy. I ran a switched and non switched 12 v bus to behind the center console so I can easily plug anything in I want.

5 volt? Are you thinking about the capacity of that line? If you're not, you should. As I recall, one of those two cigarette lighter sockets was notorious for not being able to power a radar detector without blowing a fuse. Depending on your uses, you might check the amperage available of those circuits and running from the box may provide your highest amps.

You can safely run a radar detector, phone, GPS, Bluetooth, or similar low draw charger from any of the 3 12v sockets (footwell, cig lighter or console compartment). I've used each of them many times without any issue.
