Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how much assistance should the tailgate struts on a 996tt (standard spoiler) give? Should it open on its own, with some initial assistance, much like the tailgate on a hatchback? Mine feels heavy all the way up but it does hold itself open. I just replaced the frunk struts as they didn't hold the frunk lid open on colder days. I'm guessing rear lid struts probably need replacing as I'd expect them to do most of the work.

POST 2Original post

My C2 Cabrio 996.1 only has one. I replaced it recently with a genuine one and IMO it's just there to hold the tailgate up, not to assist it. You don't really need assistance lifting it.

POST 3Original post

Good question My C2.2 Aero doesn't always open properly. I press the switch and it unlocks but doesn't lift enough and then relocks before you have chance to lift the lid. I end up doing a funny dance of pressing the button and lunging to lift the lid It does stay up however when you lift it. I have cleaned the lock etc with little effect. I also assume slightly worn struts.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have you tried tweaking the rubber bump stops at either corner? Try a quarter turn anti-clockwise at a time. Be careful no to go too far or the latch won't release at all. Mine stays unlocked no problem but seems to require more effort than expected to open it fully

POST 5Original post

I did a little, perhaps not enough. I will give them another tweak.
