Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, folks! A buddy said this is the best forum for all Porsche information, so here I am! I've been looking for a 996 for months. Long story short, I came across a 2001 C2 in Asheville, NC that I like and appears to be in great shape. I spoke with the seller for a while and didn't have a bad feeling about him at all. Seemed to know his stuff. I do not want to purchase the vehicle without seeing it. The problem is that I'm in houston, TX. I could fly there and drive it back, but I'd rather not. This may be a long shot, but does anyone on here live near Asheville, NC or know someone that does, that'd be willing to take a look at it for me? Clearly, I will pay the individual for their services. Any help is greatly appreciated. Philag

POST 2Original post

Philag, Try posting in the regional forums on Pelican Parts. If not, try Rennlist in the 996 and regional forums. Someone is bound to be able to help. Good luck! Mike

POST 3Original post

I'm retired and i'm bored. Would love to talke a ride so check. may cell is [phone removed]. Was a prior Mechanic for 3 years before becoming an officer. Now I am retired and board. Sounds like a nice road trip. Is he willing to pay for hotel room. I can cover the food and fuel. Robert

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks, dukes. I'll try that. occb2, that is incredibly generous of you to offer your time for me. I'd be glad to cover hotel expenses. I'd prefer to find someone that is a bit closer that can take care of it in a few hours, but if cannot find anyone else, I will definitely be giving you a call. Happy New Year! Phil

POST 5Original post

Robert, Are you simply looking for an excuse to stretch the legs on the 996 turbo?

POST 6Original post

Lol. Mike (bcdukes), Um hell yea... Actually after looking it up it is a hell of a trip. It's almost a 13 Hrs. trip. So I'm going to have to back out. Didn't realize it was that far. Although it would be fun driving the turbo down. I had a few drink before reading and writing the post so I had to correct my grammar. LOL. Robert

POST 7Original post

Phil, find a Porsche mechanic in that area who you can pay to inspect it and just have the owner drop it off there. You can ask him which shop he would recommend but it may be smarter to have a different shop inspect it in case he's friends with his mechanic. Also, make sure you read up on the 996 model so you know what you're getting into with a 14 year old car and what kind of issues it might have down the road.
