Whenever I store my '
06 Cayman S
for an extended period of time (2 weeks+), I noticed that my keyless entry would no longer work. Although all the lights are still blinking and the alarm active, I would have to manually unlock the door to enter the car.
After doing so, the car alarm would go off in about 20 secs. I would then be able to press the unlock button on the keyless entry and get everything back to normal.
I don't know if this is due to a weak battery or if its just a security function. Can someon enlighten me or share with me if they have a similar problem?
This function is described in your manual - if you don't use your key for a couple of weeks, the remote function shuts down to save the battery.
To re-activate it you just manually unlock the car (without opening the door), which reactivates the remote function - you can then use the remote button to lock/unlock the car without setting off the alarm.
This is normal behavior. Please see the attachment below for a more detailed explanation.

It's all in there.
I don't know if this is true of the
Cayman
; but, on my 2003
Boxster S
, if I stored it for a few weeks the same thing would happen, i.e. battery would turn off and the alarm would sound when you opened the door. You can turn off the alarm by either pushing the button on the fob or by putting the key in the ignition. Because there is a short delay before the alarm blows you may already have the key in the ignition and that stops the alarm from sounding.
If you put the key in the ignition instead of pushing the key on the fob, be aware that the gas filler door is still locked. The way to unlock it is to shut the car down and lock it with the fob, and then unlock it again with the fob.
At this point readers are probably saying "so what". The first time this happened to me, I pulled into a gas station for a fillup and discovered that my fuel filler door was locked. I thought there was some problem with the switch, so I used the emergency fuel door pull on the passenger side. Pulled it too hard, the filler door opened, but the emergency pull and cable broke off. If you ever use that emergency pull, just be gentle. If the filler door is locked, just cycle through the lock and unlock cycle again using your fob.
I'm telling you, someone needs to call
Porsche
. There is an epidemic of cars being shipped to dealers that don't have manuals.
To the OP, since your car doesn't have a manual, I'd check our FAQ.
There is a better way than waiting for the alarm to go off.
Boy.. I do feel kinda stupid rite now... but thanks for all the replies!
