Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also took it back to the Indy about a month later for an oil change, and had a few other filters changed but all has been good.
Leading evidence: 'Replace but all has been good' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair would cost' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The car drives fine, shifts as normal and there is no change to the driving experience when it comes on.
Hey all - I bought a 121k mile .1 C4 tip back in March. Beautiful car and really enjoy it, but it hasnt been without some headache so far.
after buying I took it to my local Indy and had them do a thorough P(ost)PI. All came back as expected, save for two CEL codes (one for cats going bad which not concerned about, and the P0740 - Torque Converter Solenoid). Indy said the trans code wasnt something to worry about.
Also took it back to the Indy about a month later for an oil change, and had a few other filters changed but all has been good.
Ive put about 1k miles on it so far and aside from the periodic CELs for the cats, its been relatively trouble free (save for a few instances of the car stalling upon warm start which should be fixed now with the new filters installed).
I had the P0740 code come back last week, it read Torque Converter Clutch Circuit/Open. I cleared it and it hasnt come back since. The car drives fine, shifts as normal and there is no change to the driving experience when it comes on.
my question is should I feel comfortable taking this on a ~800 mile road trip? The trans code has me a little worried even if when it appears the driving experience is no different.
could just chalk it up to being an old car, but the last thing Id want is to get stranded on the side of the road halfway into this road trip with a blown transmission.
any thoughts are welcome, thanks in advance.
Code P0740 means the Lock-up function in the Torque Converter is not functioning as expected...
It is a chain reaction failure that starts with the wear in the bore of the valve body for the pressure regulator, then the pressure regulator sticks at times causing too much pressure, this excessive pressure when the lock-up solenoid triggers for lock-up blows a rubber o-ring in the Torque Converter ...Then the lock-up function works intermittently ( or not at all)..
So basically a tiny valve sticks and blows a rubber o-ring.....
The fix is a new valve body and Torque Converter...
You can continue to drive it pretty much indefinitely with no other damage or chain reactions.....so go ahead on your 800 mile trip and just place your busseness card over the CEL...
@Porschetech3
awesome, very helpful thank you.
any sense what that repair would cost? Assuming trans would have to be dropped, so would guess its several hours of labor + parts?
The labor is what is going to kill you....
You can check the parts prices at Pelican or Auto Atlanta ect......
Yes the trans will need to be removed to access the Torque Converter , the valve body if just remove the trans oil pan and filter and there it is ...
@Porschetech3
thanks, super helpful. So nothing really to be concerned about but eventually something I should probably get fixed.
out of curiosity, are you a licensed tech? You clearly know a bunch about this specific situation haha. Wish my Indy was as knowledgeable, they couldnt really tell me anything (and they are a Porsche specialist)
Am I Licensed ???.........You must live in Canada : ) .....in the US we don't have Auto Tech Licencing but I am a Certified Porsche Gold Meister, a Mitsubishi Master, and a FoMoCo Master , ASE Master ,with over 50+ years in Dealerships, plus 2 IHRA World Records + numerous Track Championships and Race Wins + Dirt Bike and Outboard 2-stoke Racing as a Teen since I was 12 years old....
Plus I spent 7 years as a VICA Judge and Certifying Tech Schools Plus won Regional FoMoCo Top Tech Awards for 7 years straight...and probably a few other accolades I have forgot about .....oh wait ...also an Honorary Doctorate from Rennlist ( Dr.h.c.Porschetech3 eg. Dr.h.c.F.Porsche ) ...lol
@Porschetech3
admittedly Im pretty new to this whole world, clearly I have a lot of reading to do haha. I live in the northeast US. But thank you again, wish there was a way I could compensate you for the time/advice. Fun to talk to someone who is so knowledgeable.
