Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • PistonHeads: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have seen this at a dealer about 10 miles away from me, deep down i know it would be a money pit for this price i'm seriously tempted. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

POST 2Original post

well of course there's a chance that it's in superb condition and will give many years of trouble free motoring. Then there's the much more likely thing...it's a money pit. That's almost certain. And who in their right mind wants a knackered 3.4 tip? Bert

POST 3Original post

Tempting! It's almost throw away money by the time you consider the value of the parts if it does to pop.

POST 4Original post

Q1 - how much did the dealer pay for it? Q2 - why was it so cheap? Theres always the chance that its a bargain but I think you know whats more likely!

POST 5Original post

Clicking that link suggests car is either sold or ad was pulled for some other reason, so I can't comment on it. However, what a dealer paid for something isn't usually of any relevance at all.

POST 6Original post

This one looks better, well it's not a cat c for a start. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... 83k miles with full service history & invoices for under £8k

POST 7Original post

Agreed, that C4 LOOKS pukka for 8k. What could possibly go wrong?

I bet it costs no more to insure than a Golf and if your lucky not a lot more to run.

I bet it costs no more to insure than a Golf and if your lucky not a lot more to run. Thing is, when you're struggling to get a decent air cooled proposition for under £20k these days it's hard to look past these 996s. Even if it's a bit rough around the edges, as a weekend toy there's a lot to like (if you can look past the headlamps). Parts are cheap, as are extras with which to improve it. What's the worst that could happen? Engine rebuild at what - £6k? Aren't these early 3.4s less susceptible to failures anyway?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's sold. I popped down this afternoon and a guy had comedown this morning from the lake district and took it there and then.
